Today I was looking for a particular book and Mummy said it might be in my room, not in the pile of books I have handy in the lounge room or, the pile in the bathroom for when I am on the potty. Books, books, books, everywhere. When I went in to my room I said, "I have too many books..." and then it hit me:
first step of recovery: admitting the problem
Just look at this mess! and this isn't half of them. I am not proud of it but, I haven't even read them all! And even as I looked through the books searching for the one I was after, I still had the feeling that I need more... I am like on of those people who has a closet full of clothes with the tags still on. I am turning into, my mother!!!!
Books are pretty amazing though don't you think? All the places you can go, all the adventures and animals. Every night Mummy or Daddy read Dr Seuss books before bed but during the day we generally read a wide assortment together. I have even started reading myself... kinda. I know most of the letters now and all the numbers (6 and 9 are a bit tricky) so I help them out if they get stuck on any of the words.
I love that we have lots of books in the house and I love it even more that whenever I ask to read one, at least one of my parents will come to join. Today, we sat on the couch altogether (including Viski-dog) and read a ghost story. It was in Finnish but Daddy just makes the story up anyway so it doesn't really matter.
Learning to read is obviously going to open up lots more of the world for me but, I hope that they will still read to me anyway. It is a nice way to get ready for sleep to hear them read and then fall asleep as they sing. I fall asleep much faster when it is Daddy's turn to put me to sleep though. Anything to avoid his singing voice.
