Here's a walk out in the countryside for this #wednesdaywalk by 
We went out to a little town called Galena for the weekend and tried going for a walk on a trail to find a thunderbird effigy mound.
The area surrounding the thunderbird mound is mostly farmland and the weather started turning gray and windy.
We found the thunderbird mound but it wasn't very noticeable in a photo. So I took a shot of this farm instead.
And another farm... That's when my phone's weather warning alerted me of tornadoes touching down in the area.
The wind started blowing and rain started pelting us. So we ran back to the car and headed back to the city.
Fortunately on the way back we didn't see any tornadoes. Later on we learned that three different tornadoes touched down but they were all small and did no serious damage.
Back at the inn we headed down into the city of Galena to explore the shops and dodge the random downpours of rain. The stairs are quite steep going down into the town.
Galena is a quaint little old fashioned town that is similar to many older mining towns across America. Now it is mostly a tourist trap full of little shops and restaurants, perfect for escaping the rain.
There are always quite a few people here and if you want to eat at any restaurants here you definitely need to reserve a table. Its pretty strange considering how rural everything else is around here, then suddenly everything is swarmed in this tiny town.
After getting a filling dinner and some random tourist items we had to haul our butts back up the hill to the inn. Oomph these stairs are kind of tough on a full belly lol. What we missed on our countryside hike in calorie burning we made up for climbing up these steep stairs.
