A trip to any hill station never gets wasted. The strategic location at which these hill station were situated makes them an obvious choice for a perfect gateway. In the lap of nature, we can hear the natural music of wind rushing through pine branches and birds chirping instead of traffic horns, and public noises. I used to be regular to Shimla (a popular hill station) during my stay in New Delhi. Now and then I make trip with my friends during the weekend. But, since I left the metropolitan city, I always lookout for an excuse to go to any hill station. But whenever I get a chance, I never miss the opportunity to disconnect myself from rest of the world. On my last visit to Sanasar lake I made most of the opportunity in exploring the tranquil natural set up.
The vast open horizons and quiet surroundings bring a deep sense of mental calm, making me feel completely disconnected from routine stress and grounded in nature. It was after a long break that I went to the hill station. The moment I stepped into the beautiful place I find myself disconnected from rest of the world. Often called the "Mini Gulmarg" of Jammu, it feels much more secluded and slow paced than mainstream hill stations.
The cup-shaped lake sits at an altitude of 2,050 meters, framed by towering deodar trees and hills that mirror the open sky. The lake is located in the middle of an expansive, saucer or cup shaped green meadow that keeps the area sheltered and quiet. I reached there and did not much rush. The overnight rain had made the ground bit dampness. It was slippery on few steps. But looking at the natural setup simply made me fall in awe.
It was like a place from wonderland. The open meadows and surrounding slopes serve as a major base for paragliding, parasailing, horse/pony riding, zip-lining, camping, and rock climbing. Few of the visitors already started taking their rides. I was not interested in doing such adventures. As I was completely enjoying my walk around the valley and do not want to get them spoil. I went on to walk around and also to click the beautiful landscape.
The calm, crystal clear surface of the lake mirrors towering surrounding peaks and the open sky, creating ideal conditions for symmetry and landscape compositions. I must confess visiting the place is a visual paradise for photographers due to its dramatic alpine geography, vibrant seasonal colors, and tranquil water reflections. For me I do not wanted to get back to home. The place has a rare combination of profound silence, untouched wilderness, and an overwhelming sense of isolation from the chaotic modern world.
