Just a few photos from the local 4th of July parade.
First we start off with the Jesse White Tumblers who flip around off a trampoline in the parade.
I don't know how they do it and land perfectly on such a thin mat that is on asphalt.
It must be the art of tumbling just right. You flip a few times in the air and time it to land on your hands then roll. The person at the end kind of lifts up the mat to help stop the roll.
Thankfully from my vantage point I was able to get a few mid-air shots of them flying around. Always a big hit at the parade.
Next up is a local celebrity who is a 4th degree black belt in Karate and likes to wear a superman outfit at all events in town. He even has a documentary about him.
SAVING SUPERMAN tells the story of Jonathan, a 57-year-old man with autism who’s become a local hero in the Chicago suburb of Glen Ellyn. Affectionately known as “Superman,” Jonathan is celebrated for his everyday acts of kindness and has been a beloved fixture in the town’s Fourth of July Parade for nearly 30 years. When a new building owner threatened his home, the community rallied behind him — led by his best friend, Julie — whose grassroots fundraiser sparked an outpouring of support to save not just his house, but the spirit of the town itself.
This time he lead the parade and had some superhero friends behind him. As long as I've lived here he has always been in the parade.
Classic cars are big around here. I kind of like these boat cars as I used to drive a massive Dodge Polaris as my high school car.
The shriners are big on their car collections. This year it was all cars but in the past they used to ride horses.
A plumber got into the parade with a bathtub car, this was one of my daughter's favorites.
A local rock band with an alien lead guitarist, I take it the alien's name is Steve?
Quite a few marching bands this year. I felt pity for the drummers as I used to do this at various hot parades. Carrying a drum line on your back for a few miles is lots of work.
A lacross team was in the parade too. This kid reminds me a bit of Dennis Rodman with his star dyed hair.
Bagpipes are a must at any 4th of July parade.
A float with a pig themed grill on it. I forget if this was a local restaurant or some other business.
I think this Elmo mascot had the toughest job of all dressed like this in the hot sun. He should have had some Gatorade in both hands to be safe.
The Pumpkin People, they decorate pumpkins and deliver them to your door or decorate your whole porch. Also I've been seeing quite a few of these new VW busses around.
Can't forget the water rescue boat.
And the vintage firetruck. There were many other floats, bands and participants this was just a few of the highlights.
