I previously showed a Vintage Draped Bust Silver Round by SilverTowne Mint.
SilverTowne Mint produced a series of silver bars depicting carriages and wagons during the 1980s. This is one of them.
Vintage SilverTowne Mint Covered Wagon
The silver bar depicts travel on the Oregon Trail, historical trail in the United States. In the 19th century, it was one of the two primary emigration routes to the American West.

A common covered wagon used by emigrants heading west in the 19th century was the prairie schooner. It was the preferred car on the Oregon Trail. The white canvas bonnet of the wagon, which from a distance resembled the sailing ship known as a schooner, gave rise to the nickname prairie schooner.
Since prairie schooners had no suspension and the roads and trails at the time were rough, most people on long treks preferred to walk alongside the wagon or ride a horse (if they had one) rather than endure the wagon鈥檚 constant jolting and lurching. Ox teams were not controlled with reins, so the driver walked alongside the animals, using a whip and spoken commands to guide them. The usual average rate of travel with such wagons on the Oregon Trail was about 2 miles (3.2 km) per hour, and the average distance covered each day was about 15 to 20 miles (24 to 32 km). This was an easy pace for both the pioneers and their animals. 1

SilverTowne Mint started out as a modest coin shop in a rural Indiana town in 1949.
It has grown to become one of the biggest and most reputable dealers of gold, silver, and numismatics in the United States.
