The head office of Northstar Mint was located in Los Angeles, California. The period of its functioning was 1982 to 1986. It produced bars in a variety of sizes over the course of its life, including 5 oz, 10 oz, 25 oz, and 50 oz.

It manufactured two different types of one-ounce rounds: one featuring the Liberty bell's obverse and the other a Morgan dollar's. These two rounds had the year 1982 on them. The silver rounds featured a business strike finish and were made in.999 Fine Silver.

The recognizable Morgan Dollar pattern is featured on these 1 oz..999 pure Silver Trade Units. These are extremely collectible because they are hard to find and are no longer manufactured.

Obverse: The obverse depicts a replica of the Morgan dollar with a left-facing Lady Liberty. Inscribed above the effigy is the phrase "LIBERTY AND JUSTICE". Thirteen stars decorate the remaining outer edge.

Reverse: The central feature on the reverse is the name of the mint "NORTHSTAR MINT". The inscriptions above the name of the mint along the outer edge read "INTERNATIONAL TRADE UNIT", "ONE TROY OUNCE SILVER", and ".999 FINE". Laurel wreaths decorate the lower edge. Below the laurel wreaths the weight of "31.1 GRAMS is inscribed. Micro inscribed immediately above the laurel wreaths is the phrase "© 1982 NORTHSTAR MINT".

There are several silver rounds being manufactured today depicting the classic Morgan Dollar coin. The round has multiple manufacturers so designs may vary slightly. The design of these rounds is based on the original coin issued by the U.S. Mint. The rounds carry no actual face value while the silver dollar carries a value of one dollar. There is the Sunshine Mint, Mason Mint, and GSM, to name just a few.
