The United State Mint commemorates the 100th anniversary first-ever Peace Dollar with a silver coin.
The Peace Dollar coin came with a Certificate of Authenticity. The coin is encapsulated and presented inside a black box from the United States Mint. Like all coins struck at the Philadelphia Mint, there is no mint mark that appears on the coin.
Lady Liberty is depicted with a towering, spiked crown reminiscent of rays of sunshine. This design is based on Anthony de Francisci's effigy of Liberty.
On the reverse side is a bald eagle as it rests on a rock inscribed with word "PEACE" against rays of sunshine rising from the lower fields of the coin. The eagle clutches an olive branch in its talons. The new reverse was meant to reflect the hard-earned peace of World War I.
The Peace Silver Dollar holds a distinction as the last circulation silver coin issued by the United States Mint and the federal government. Coins were struck at the Philadelphia, Denver, and San Francisco Mints, and first issued as a celebration of world peace after World War I. The coins were minted in 1921 to 1928 and 1934 to1935.
