Afternoon everyone…..
My girlfriend bought tickets to a baseball game for Tuesday night. I know that it’s Friday and I’m a little behind, but I’ve been to busy to write this post.
The game was for the Somerset Patriots. They are the AA affiliate of the New York Yankees. While I personally hate the Yankees as a diehard Redsox fan. I really enjoy going to games of any team.
They were playing the Hartford Yard Goats a AA affiliate of the Oakland Athletics. I have never been to this stadium before, it is a really nice place and very easy to get to. It was only a 35 minute ride.
The above photos show the outside of the stadium. To me it resembles the Houston Astro’s park.
There is a statue of Yankee legend Sparky Lyle and the founder of the Patriots out front.
Here is what the park looks like from our seats. We were three rows back from the field just right of home plate.
It was a special night (which we knew nothing about). It was the night to honor both Sparky Lyle and Ron Guidry, two legendary Cy Young award winning pitchers for the Yankees. Lyle won in 1977, and Guidry in 1978. They did an interview with both prior to the game. It was quite interesting.
Ron Guidry threw out the first pitch to his old time teammate Sparky Lyle. Ron Guidry was nicknamed Louisiana Lightning. I have met Guidry before and can say he is a really nice guy.

The game was great a true pitchers duel. At the end of nine innings, the score was zero zero. In the top of the tenth the Yard Goats scored a run on a wild pitch taking the lead 1-0. In the bottom of the tenth the Patriots got the bases loaded with two outs. The next batter up hit an opposite field grand slam to win the game 4-1.

The weather was great, the stadium was great, the game was great. The only thing not great is the Yankees won…..
