JOG FALLS : The original Waterfalls

A morning at Jog Falls in late August.

Jog falls are situated in Shimoga District of karnataka, India. Thes falls are very famous tourist spot in Southern part of India. There are 4 streams of falls in it namely Raja, Rani Roarer and Rocket. ( from left to right in the first picture.)
Earlier there use to be dense forest in the area, but rise of tourism resulted in firest cover being depleted. and now there are only a fraction of forests are left there.

The trek of JOG:

To reach jog falls, you have to take a bus from bangaluru and there is no direct way to reach there. From bangaluru you take a bus to shimoga which taes about 12 hours and then from shimoga you have to take another roadways bus whcih takes about 1.5 hours.
There is an alternate route from Coastal city of mangalore. From mangalore you take a bus whcih takes about 1.5 hours to the famous falls.

Place to stay

There is not many places to stay around the falls excet two hotes which are really near. these are operated by KSRTC ( karnataka state road transport corporation). These are expensie hotel and can cost above 3000 Inr per night. Both of them have amazing views. and you can see the falls directly from your window.

There are some other resorts but none of them have view of falls. But since the area is hilly and in rainy season, it is lush green, and the views are amazing.

JOG FALLS

well when you reach jog falls, you have to buy ticket to actualy reach the point where you can enjoy the view point. There is optino to decend down to the foot of the falls. But beware it is not for the faint of heart. There is over 1400 stairs to go down to the foot of the falls. and you have to come up as well.
When i decended down, it took me over 1,5 hours and to coe back up above 3 hours.
So you should reach there early in the morning to see the mist forming around the falls.
One minute you can clearly see the water falling down and as soon as the sun hit it first thing in the morning, you can see the mist rising. it is the best thing i have ever seen in my life. No phot can do justice.

Preparation

You dont need much, actually do this cardio excercise ( because of stairs). YOu should have a small bag, a spare shorts and t shirt and water and chocolates or energy bar.
When you reach the spot, buy your ticket, it cost about 100 for indians and 500 for non indians. and then you can see the falls from the railing whcih is a good vanatge points. but if you like the water you can chose to decend stairs. but it can take upto 6 hours in return journey. Pack some snaks and water and a waterproof camera. :) and you are set.

Valley of the falls: You have to climb down aprox 1400 steps down to reach the foot of falls. This was the best cardio excercise i had in a day while visiting any waterfall. Phew !

AT THE FOOT of falls : In peak Summer

You can see water is really quiet as there was not much water in the river it self. and the stream has dried up.

After this I went back up and slept for next 13 hours, as i was super tired. I hope you will visit this place one day.
Till next Time :

Cheers
