Introduction

I'm here to share my Battle Mage Secrets blog post for the Battle Mage Secrets Challenge. The theme featured this week is Broken Arrows. In this ruleset, all creatures that have ranged attack can't be used; this also included those that have dual or triple type attacks. I will be sharing some strategies that are good to use in this ruleset as well as feature one of my battles under this ruleset.

Strategy For Broken Arrows

In Broken Arrows ruleset, there's only two types of creatures that can be played which is melee and magic. From my experience, most people will play magic. With this knowledge, the best play is to actually counter magic so you can use summoners like Immortalis, Grandmaster Rathe, Thaddius, etc. Another way to play is to just use melee with opportunity and sneak with a summoner like Possibilus, Kelya, Lux Vega etc which will counter the people that decide to play to counter magic.

The Battle

I played this battle on my account, shawnnft. The battle link can be found here. This battle is in diamond modern ranked. The ruleset for this battle was Broken Arrows and Rise of the Commons. It was a 45 mana cap battle with dragon and life banned.

Discussing My Lineup

Summoner, Immortalis - I chose Immortalis to counter magic! As mentioned earlier, in broken arrows ruleset you can choose to counter magic as one of the strategies.

First Position, Mycelic Infantry - I chose Mycelic Infantry in the first spot to be my tank to defend against melee damage. I love using this card with Immortalis because it basically halves damage from all sources of damage even range if it was allowed. This card compliments well with Immortalis and is pretty standard to play alongside Immortalis.

Second Position, Disintegrator - I chose Disintegrator to be the secondary tank. It also brought utility by debuffing opponent by -1 melee with demoralize. This is huge since it will further reduce melee damage done to my Mycelic Infantry.

*Third Position, Regal Peryton - The purpose of this card was to do damage. It's a great common with good base damage and high speed as well as decent health. It's great to be a tank with flying as well after the first two creatures infront died.

Fourth Position, Venari Scout - The purpose of this card was to assassinate low health targets with opportunity. Also if they decided to counter magic, it would give me some balance with melee damage.

Fifth Position, Goblin Psychic - The main purpose for Goblin Psychic was to heal my front line. The best utility it gave was silence which reduced magic damage which compliments well with Immortalis. It also has extra benefits of removing opponent's buffs with dispel as well as having a chance to add affliction to stop enemy from healing.

Final Position, Mycelic Slipspawn - Mycelic Slipspawn was my taunt creature to tank more for my other creatures. I love how it can taunt and defend against any possible opportunity strike monsters. This can keep my assassin and healer safe.

Analysis of The Battle

My line up worked out great. The opponent wasn't able to do much damage since I kind of countered melee and magic with the demoralize and the Immortalis, Mycelic Infantry, Goblin Psychic combo was too strong for the enemy to handle. On top of that, the shatter from my creatures basically made Kelya useless. The opponent was using under leveled cards unfortunately so we can't see a completely fair playing field but hey it's their fault they didn't level up their cards or rent higher leveled cards.

Do I Like Broken Arrows Ruleset?

To answer this, I actually do like Broken Arrows ruleset. I usually win in this ruleset. I usually play counter magic strategies in this ruleset and win. For some reason, I usually play against Obsidian players in this ruleset and they just end up giving me free wins. Who doesn't like free wins?

Anyways that's all for me this week. Hope to see you again for next week's Battle Mage Secrets!
