In my recent posts I have featured some of my favorite Modern Archons (or as we used to call them Summoners). Today I would like to feature another one of my favorite archons to play in Modern Champion: Lorkus.
The strategy for using Lorkus is fairly simple: Use magic and melee attack monsters from Fire and Death splinters. But there is more to using Lorkus than just that. There are some key monsters that I like to use with Lorkus: Kelan Gaines is absolutely essential because it is a super fast monsters that deals three magic damage twice per turn and with Lorkus boosting his magic attack this makes Kelan deal eight damage per turn. It is also good because this 8 damage per turn gets around the force field that cuts damage of five down to just one. I also like to assign Life Leach ability to Kelan Gains and that way he can gain up to four health during each turn.
Another key monster I like to play with Lorkus is a strong taunt tank to distract some of the opponents damage from the front tank. For this a neutral legendary monster Bellowmancer is perfect with his seven void shield and nine health points. Bellowmancer also has a shield against melee and ranged attackers. This makes him a very resilient monster.
The third key monster I like to play with Lorkus is Arachne Weaver that makes the taunt tank even more resilient and also helps the whole team to stay longer in the game by applying Corrupted Healing.
The fourth key monster I like to play with Lorkus is Baron Fyatt, this legendary promo monster is great to halve the opponent’s damage and it fires in the Ambush round before the battle even starts. It doesn’t’ hurt that all four of these monsters have magic attack that gets boosted by Lorkus.
And just in case magic is severely nerfed I like to throw two really strong melee monsters: Venka the Vile which is a real killer at eight melee damage and trample ability as well as a very resilient melee tank Oridum Graybrow. Oridum Graybrow has thorns, and can resurrect itself using Resurgence ability and it also has Spite ability where it counterattacks when defeated.
In this battle Lorkus is going against Brave Tofu, kind of a classic meta archon faceoff. It looks like Blazoblaz is betting on a very strong and resilient double tanks supported by Fizbo the Fabulous and all the while distracting my attention towards the classic taunt tank Mycelic Slipspawn. Fizbo the Fabulous also is providing defense from my thorns from the Oridium Graybrow. It was probably also intended to defend against Brave Tofu on my end as well as this was an obvious play.
In the first round we made some good progress taking down the taunt tank health as well as taking the health of Fizbo the Fabulous. Our Arachne Weaver i keeping our monsters in the game by using his corrupt healing. So far our Venka the Vile is not very effective due to the force field shield on the Mycelic Slipspawn. Let's see what round two will bring...
In round two our MVP was obviously Kelan Gaines that took out both the taunt tank and Fizbo the Fabulous. That allowed our Venka the Vile to do some serious damage to the main tank. Our Baron Fyatt halved our opponent's Venka's damage to only three melee from seven, before falling down himself.
Round three turned out to be the decisive round where we took down two out of the three remaining monsters on the field. I think the outcome of this battle is no longer in doubt as our Kelan Gaines should promptly dispose of their Venka at the start of the fourth round.
It is a nice victory and over twenty SPS is our reward.
