Home Again
It's 10:09 pm Tuesday night here and I am home again after working at Adelaide Oval selling tickets.
I've eaten the 6 pieces of Kentucky Fried Chicken I bought at my local KFC on the way home and I am currently playing Starfield on my laptop.
It's time to relax and unwind.
The job itself isn't difficult, in fact the first part of each shift is often just setting up the computers, EFTPOS machines, and generally sorting out the codes we use and then there's a bit of waiting for the clients to turn up.
Every time there seems to be something wrong with the printers, or the passwords haven't been updated or a million other things that can and do go wrong.
Today everything did go wrong, at once, butbit was a good learning experience for me and another coworker who was relatively new to the job.
We even had a really tall, angry, guy lose his temper while we were dealing with complex issues from clients who had either never purchased tickets from Ticketek before, or they wanted refunds, etc.
"Do you guys even know what you're doing?" He screamed in an Australian. I stood up and shook my head in slow disapproval and said "No abuse."
He moved over to another teller who pitely served him.
English is often a second language for some which means a thick foreign accent and everyone speaking at once though a 5cm diameter speaking hole makes getting a client's phone number a farce at the best of times.
A notepad and a pen and a polite request to write down someone's name and phone number for our system usually gets the best results.
On Sunday, for The Nutcracker ballet an old guy became threatening towards me because it turned out he'd bought the wrong tickets to an event. He settled down eventually after his wife told him to go for a walk and she sorted it all out. Inget paid AU$55 an hour on Sundays and they have to pay 4 hours minimum.
I'll talk about that further another time.
For now I can relax and start to prepare for Christmas.
Tomorrow is a day off and I am looking forward to catching up on my reading and recording some more podcast episodes.
Things are looking up for 2024.
Looking up
Thank you for reading.
Until next time,
Big thumbs up!
