Battered Pork - Pho Linh
I've spent the last few days trying to complete Subnautica: Below Zero whike listening to anti cult and anti multilevel marketing scam podcasts.
I am not sure which is scarier to be honest.
The weather has been stormy on and off during the week, and the usual chorus of shocked Adelaideans on Facebook is singing louder than Mariah Carey about how Spring should be hot like Summer, despite the fact that Spring is the between both Winter and Summer and do whatever it wants between the two extremes.
Today the sky was white with cloud but it wasn't raining when I left home. I'd had the craving for hot chips amd headed toward the Waterloo Chicken Shop.
Fish and Chip shops can sell hot and cold chickens, salads, hamburgers, steak sandwiches, and a wide range of other savoury dishes. Occasionally they might offer sweet desserts.
Before long the rain did start, spitting slowly at first, then picking up to a light rain. While not heavy, it was enough to change my plans and I ended up going to the Pho Linh Vietnamese restaurant where I am sitting, typing this, now.
I grabbed a drink from one of the many glass doored fridges and walked to the counter. I ordered their Chicken and Corn Soup, my favourite delicacy and the Battered Pork in Sweet and Sour Sauce with a side of fried rice and sat down and started to type this.
Battered Pork with Sweet and Sour Sauce
The meal didn't take long to prepare, and was presented to me in short order. I can't always convey how big some of these meals are, but they can be piled relatively high, but you get your money's worth.
The battered pork section had, as the name suggests, pork battered amd then covered in sweet and sour sauce, decorative sliced carrot, capsicum (red peppers) and onion.
The fried rice had corn, peas, carrot, pork, and bean shoots.
The meal is very filling, and I continued to type this in between bites. I gave my thanks for the meal and wished everyone well.
I sat outside for a bit assessing the weather, continuing to type and edit. It wasn't raining so I went for a walk to the Salisbury North Football Club to use their facilities.
When I came out, I stopped at the entrance just before the sky opened up with a heavy downpour.
An older woman said to me "Where's the Summer?" and I smiled, knowing this was going to be a "call back" within this post.
The rain didn't last long. It's a strange Adelaide quirk with the weather, one that I wish more locals were aware of.
I came home to finish typing this and to prepare for work next week.
Thank you for reading. See you in the kitchens!
