Adelaide Hive Meetup
One of the many benefits of living in Adelaide is that, while there is an urban sprawl, it's still easy for Hive enthusiasts to congregate at the one spot for monthly face to face meet ups.
One such spot is the The Jade pub in the centre of Adelaide's CBD.
.
The Meetup
There also many benefits of Hive meetups, but the main one is that you get to know and trust the people "behind the usernames" and you can see first hand the affect you're having on the real world with your online shennanigans! Chuckle.
This night was the August 26th meetup and I needed to prepare.
@holoz0r left a message in the Hive Australia discord telling us that Woolies Supermarkets were giving bonus rewards points for Google Play Store purchases.
These could be used to put credits into Splinterlandsfor the upcoming expansion. So off I went to pick them up.
Along the way, I saw this very cryptic QR code placed strategically on a pole. Whatever could it mean?
I got to the pub early, only to find that there was a school band practicing, possible for their graduation. I never found out.
It wasn't long before @mattclarke turned up and we soon were looking for alternative seating, after of course checking out what was on the menu!
Tonight it was a Thai Green Curry with a side of steamed rice and Toasted Ham and Cheese Sandwiches.
@mattclarke ordered the Thai Green Curry, and I ordered a couple of thde toasted ham and cheese sandwiches.
We found a table and chairs near the entrance to the pub.
@mattclarke went inside to order a few drinks, just as
@ctrpch turned up. He went inside as my food was delivered.
It didn't take us long to start discussing all things Splinterlands
I had some great news in the form that I am now officially an independant contractor for the game in the Official Splinterlands Telegram.
I don't know the full details exactly and we are trying to determine schedules and time zones, but it will be good to be paid to talk about Splinterlands in an official capacity.
Reputation matters.
@minismallholding turned up with one of her daughters,
@svitlaangel who also had her own amazing career news. I think they ordered hot chocolate and meat pies.
It's winter here and as the evening got colder we moved inside where the last embers in the fireplace went out.
@mattclarke played Morpheus to my Neo ala The Matrix regarding Splinterlands while sitting in a big chair.
@focus.folks and his wife turned up too bringing frogcakes in three different flavours. Frogcake is our comment upvote bot and if you attend 3 of our meetings locally, and for a small HP delegation you become part of it's daily upvotes.
A frogcake is a local Adelaide invention and delicacy. It's very sweet. It consists of a small square of vanilla sponge cake, with cream on top, covered in fondant, usually green.
We discussed many things, and @ctrpch talked about a Hive / HBD conversion strategy that I have since started to implement. We'll see how we go with it all.
@focus.folks had these cool fridge magnets made to be placed around the area that have another mysterious QR code on them to explain what the Hive block-chain is.
It was a great night, brimming with hints, tips and insider talk.
If you are ever in Adelaide, South Australia on the last Thursday night of the month, we'd love to have you along.
Anyway, that's all from me today.
Until next time, have fun!
Shaidon.
