If the work of detectives and mysterious creatures does this to you, then probably The Sinking City is just for you. After all, what could be bad about a game based on the world of author H.P. Lovecraft? The answer may surprise you.

The Sinking City

As a mystery and horror style lover, I always look for these games. After all, horror movies don't really move me, so all that's left is style video games. When I first came across The Sinking City trailer, it was clear to me that I was going to play it, and whatever. The added bonus of the whole business is that you have to go and investigate things, because which one of us wouldn't want to be like Sherlock Holmes? And that's another call to the world created by H.P. Lovecraft that I so appreciate? I was completely in the clouds. I guess I celebrated too soon, because of the findings you will read later.

In a small town called Oakmont, something a little strange and strange happens to him. And we do not mean that inns continue to pop up there one after another, even after the horrific flooding, which has simply cut off the entire town from all other states of the United States. People from all over the country are attracted to the place through deceptive plays that haunt you, and outbursts of hysteria. This is one of the reasons why Detective Charles Reed, too, finds himself in the same unexplained area. Our job is to get to the root of the problem, and to crack this complicated case.

The way to crack the mystery is not easy. Very soon, this young detective discovers that the same delusions that brought him here are becoming more difficult and distorted. The same thing happens for an investigation, which at each stage also becomes more complicated. Any such progress in the game leads to surrender to insanity, which raises the question of whether the events we are witnessing are actually happening to them?

Games -

For those who have gone out to play some games in the previous Bigben Interactive games (Sherlock Holmes games series), you'll probably feel like home. The open world atmosphere along with the game exploration system puts us in the clear and familiar configuration that we already know.

In the game itself, we have no indication or marker whatsoever to indicate the direction of the investigation, where we are heading now or who we should turn to for more satisfactory answers. Reading and reading the documents and clues will give us a bit of exploration in the city, which is a kind of breakthrough in this great and long investigation. That seems to be a real detective, and here the feeling of satisfaction is completely real.

We must pay close attention, as far as charges are concerned, because most of them take part in the crime scene. While we arrive at the venue, we have the option of looking for clues and talking to witnesses freely. It is important that you pay attention to the small details, and explore everything in depth. For that matter, a short walk to the police station will allow you access to the criminal records of those suspects. The hospital also offered us information about patient details, which is how we become a little better detectives.

Once we decide that we have all the evidence, it's time to come to a conclusion. In the Mind Palace we can actually connect clues, and in fact create a central conclusion, which will probably haunt us again at some point in the game. Findings and conclusions can always vary from game to game, thanks to the wonderful option that allows us to reach different conclusions, according to the same findings from our investigation.

Major investigative cases are the ones that take longer (and actually last 15 hours). But be sure that Oakmont residents have another pile of small investigations that can get you some more time in the game itself. Among those investigative files are a plethora of corpses, examinations of patients undergoing treatment or investigations of various homicides.

Whoever was expecting a game full of fight scenes is probably going to be disappointed. Not only are the same scenes very little in the game, they aren't really built properly either. We can stockpile guns, automatic weapons, and shotguns, but most of the time we will be busy looking primarily for ammunition for them. Not to mention shoot and hit, because our aim doesn't really help in this case. And if we have bullets since they were able to hurt something, they don't do too much damage.

Graphics -

More from the trailer can be seen the special place and the dark and unique style of The Sinking City. The same atmosphere is also reflected in the game. Whether it's the gloomy and shabby buildings in town, the strange characters interact with you on screen. What adds to all this intimidating interrogation game, are the delusions that pop up to them, and you're not sure at that moment whether it's Reed's imagination hand or is it really happening to him in that dark and creepy world. Visually, everything in the game looks very dark and uninviting, as if everything had just come out of the same creative mind of H.P. Lovecraft. And definitely feel his inspiration comes from that title.

In Conclusion -

The Sinking City is one of those games that has a good plot, great sense of horror and a perfect atmosphere. Unfortunately, he encounters a lot of difficulties, whether it's his particularly problematic and broken battle system, or the banal files, which are repeated over and over, time after time. Eventually you find yourself doing the same thing over and over again, like a parrot. After all, it's a dawn that also incorporates supernatural elements, so why not go wild anymore. It is very disappointing to me because it has a lot of potential to be better. I believe that a little waiting could have solved all the problems I have with him. He has already been postponed on his release date in the past, so why not postpone some more and work on what's wrong?

The Sinking City can be purchased for the Playstation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and in 2020 for PC.
