Tonight at work, I photographed some interesting spiders that really reminded me of black widows, but they weren't black and didn't have the red spot on their backs, so I was curious to find out what kind of spiders they were, especially since I have a slight phobia of spiders and praying mantises.

It turned out that they could be young black widows or false black widows from the genus Steatoda, such as Steatoda grossa or Steatoda nobilis, from the family Theridiidae.

In any case, they are related to the red and black widows.
I also read that a bite from these species can cause local pain, redness and discomfort, and in some cases even nausea and vomiting.

I tried to catch them with a glass and a piece of paper so I could release them somewhere far away from the area where I work, but they ran away as soon as I got close.

I just hope that if I leave them alone, they’ll leave me alone too. Still, every ten minutes or so, I find myself shining my flashlight over there just to make sure I know where they are, just in case.
