Yesterday, we decided to dedicate the day to a little bit of history.
We visited Speleon, a museum of history where you can see various artifacts dating back to the time of the Neanderthals, all of which were discovered in the nearby Barać Caves.
Excavations are still ongoing there because they have recently discovered some new things as well, according to the guide who showed us around the museum and explained what everything was and where it had been found.
It was absolutely amazing, fun, and educational.
We were all happy, especially our son, because he got to learn about and see things he had never seen before — materials and tools used by Neanderthals, as well as equipment used by speleologists and archaeologists.
Above the museum, there is also a café where you can have coffee, soft drinks, and other beverages, as well as pancakes, cakes, hot dogs with homemade sausage, and similar food.
Of course, there is also a souvenir shop, and we had to buy something for everyone.
We ended up getting fridge magnets, water bottles, and I bought myself a bottle of homemade Lika blueberry brandy.
On our way back, we stopped by the roadside at a place where they have been selling homemade smoked cheese and pine-needle honey for more than 30 years.
The honey is especially good for coughs and bronchitis.
All in all, I came home from my night shift, slept for only four hours, and then we drove three hours to Speleon in Rakovica and another three hours back. We also spent quite a while exploring the museum and everything around it, so we basically spent the entire day away from home.
And yet, I wasn't tired at all, because it was such a beautiful experience. I'm already looking forward to visiting again as soon as they discover some new artifacts.
