There was this new guy in the neighborhood, his name is Gran. No one knew the meaning of his name and no one cared to ask. He spoke less and smiled more. He was jovial, just think of any good behavior and character that can be attributed to a young handsome gentleman. No one knew anything about him, all they knew was his name "Gran" and that's all. He never told anyone about his background, he was never seen with anyone neither did anyone visited him.
Everyone in the neighborhood loved him, but he was not the type of guy into friendship of a thing, he lived peacefully with everyone in the neighborhood. He stayed in more and stayed out less. Everyone had been inquisitive about what he does for a living. He always gave a positive reply of "I am doing good ". He is always dressed like a smart guy. He paid his bills as everyone does, he behaved maturely.
One faithful Monday evening, everyone had returned home, finding out that their was no water in the tank and their was no water stored, everyone started thinking on how to get water to cook, wash children uniform and bath.
Only a single water tank served the whole of Oron street. This very thank was an iron thank, durable and big. Because of the way it always depense water no one cared to store up water in jerrycans or buckets. They felt when water is not used for a very long time, it breeds mosquitos, germs and spyrogyra. This is very true. They fetch the water they wanted for that particular moment from running taps.
Everyone was seen with empty jerrycan and bucket roaming the streets looking for water, it was hard finding water because it seems the problem was general. Children were not left out in the hustle for water. Mothers backed their little ones, fathers were seen with wheel barrows. The streets was noisy and filled with sounds of dropping buckets. There was no hope that there would be water the next day. " Truth be told, Water is life" a mother had lamented. The Problem was yet to be detected from the engine so there was little or no hope at all. The clock was also thicking fast. It seems it was a shorter day and longer night period.
Returning from his usual evening walk, he saw many people with empty jerrycan and bucket, he asked a little girl what the problem was, she told him " there is no water " . Getting inside his apartment, he checked the tap to be sure that their was no water, then he picked a bucket and a gallon.
Once the neighbors saw him headed out, they called out to him, Gran told his neighbors that " There's water on the road" without stopping he went on his way. The neighbors followed him immediately. Gradually everyone on the street inquired of their movement, the reply they got was "there's water on the road".
Gradually the once noisy street was gradually becoming silent, everyone had headed the direction of the moving crowd. They were all in search of water, so it seem fit to them to follow the moving crowd.
"water on the road,is that possible " someone had asked a neighbor. " it possible, maybe probably he saw a tap by the road side". Their were different argument and opinions on water on the road. Some had not even inquired, they only saw a moving crowd with empty buckets and jerrycan and they also headed the direction.
After what seems like an hour walk without no water in view some neighbors decided to meet up with Gran. Increasing their walking space, they were able to catch-up with him.
" We have walked almost an hour without any water or running tap in view", " where exactly did you see the water".
I saw water from a far distance and once we get near to it, it disappears. I can't find it again, I am sure I saw water from afar.
" All you saw was a mirage" , "A mirage" the large crowd repeated after a man who was able to understand what Gran had ment all along.
Mr James, one of Grans neighbors took time to explain what a mirage was. Mr James found out that Gran was ignorant of what a mirage was, explaining to Gran was the best thing he needed. Gran got to understand what a mirage was and he was also sorry for his actions.
Everyone had to return back to the street the same way they came finding out that their was no water in the road. Once everyone returned to the street, the water issue had already been solved. Children could be seen splashing water on one another.
