They say when you become close friends with someone, you get a free pass to make almost any kind of jokes you want about them, even if it comes at their expense. Well, it turns out that there are some jokes that just go too far.
Sometime last week, I was in my neighbor's room along with four of my friends/neighbors, and we all were just having a good time conversing and making jokes. Then we started to talk about a group one of them had opened on WhatsApp. It was a group whose purpose was for people to be able to come in to buy and sell stuff.
And while we were debating if the group was a good idea, one of my friends there had mentioned that he was surprised that he wasn't added to the group. Apparently the guy who opened the group had added everyone else, even people he wasn't close friends with, except for that guy who happens to be his close friend.
But the reason the guy had given for not adding his friend to the group had not only shocked all of us; it had made us laugh too. He had said that he only added people he knew would buy stuff from the group, insinuating that he felt his friend was too broke to contribute or buy anything from the group.
It was funny, but it also was very insulting, and I knew it too. So I wasn't surprised when later that evening, the friend who got insulted had confided in me about how he felt about the whole thing and how he's still angry about it.
And when he had told the other guy about it, he had told him that he was only joking and shouldn't take it seriously. Apparently he doesn't think he said anything wrong or bad, which to me isn't right.
