WOOOOOOW I always forget how much discrimination exists in India. WOW It's really hard to imagine. So are there some rich people from the lower caste, or is it impossible? I guess there are more and more people who don't care but it still sounds like a serious problem in some situations.

I can see your point, although perhaps because I always felt like an outcast in America, and had mixed friends since I was about 13, I may not feel the same way. Actually I feel a big comradery with people who speak English Mandarin and Japanese (at least 2 of the 3). I feel most at ease with those people because at this point, my thinking is in 3 language. If we are talking about someone whose first language is a different language, I feel more patience with that person because I feel we have a chance to learn from each other. I may have the least patience with people who speak just one of the languages I speak and no other languages, that includes people from my home country. I don't think I look down on them, but I have very low expectations for us to really have deep understanding, unless they are especially curious about the world.

In the end, I guess I care most about that kind of curiosity towards the world. Those are my people.

As for why the landlords turn me down, I think that will be something I have to write a whole post on.
