During his time as CEO of Twitter Jack Dorsey owned 2.4% of the company. At the time, I thought, as most people do, that he “owned” twitter. There are many people who mistake the role of CEO for the role of primary stakeholder. Perhaps those who work a corporate job know better but many people don’t.
Either way, people are used to having a face to a project. Twitter had Dorsey, now it has Musk. Apple had Steve Jobs and now it has Tim Apple. Ether has Vitalik and FTX has SBF (good riddance). Not every project needs a face to succeed, but it always helps people notice the project.
You could say that because Hive has no company or CEO that it has no need for a figure at the front. On the contrary though, I think we can all feel free to represent hive as our own project. Some of us have more power than others but thousands of people have played a vital role. You can try to compare who has had a bigger impact on the blockchain, but without the centralized structure, it’s very open-ended.
Since no one represents Hive we all represent Hive.
It’s easy to point to someone like @roelandp who organizes Hive fest or
@theycallmedan who is at the head of 3speak or
@blocktrades who heads a whole lot of the development and quantify their influence on the chain. While they may be strong pillars of this community, there are hundreds of other pillars who keep it up though.
All of us who have spent time here have had a unique role and we “work” for Hive as much as we use it. Most of us are great representatives of Hive. Instead of having no face, what if we have countless faces to represent the blockchain?
@samostically has done a regular podcast interviewing all sorts of different people from Hive and helping us find each other. He is CEO of Hive.
@dreemsteem started Dreemport, a platform to encourage engagement and has brought many people over to Hive from another crypto project that didn’t survive. She is the CEO of Hive.
@joythewanderer has been here for years sharing her travels and has been one of the only users to consistently interact with both English speaking and Manadrin speaking users. She is CEO of Hive.
@starstrings01 has done a ton to guide new users at hive and help them find the right community for them, teaching them what’s considered valuable and hive and on the side has helped me keep the Cross Culture community afloat when I am too busy or distracted. He is CEO of Hive.
@thelogicaldude single handedly gave us a marketplace, something which COULD end up being one of the best tools we have to keep Investments in the ecosystem so people are less incentivized to cash out (he just needs some help in getting more people to use it). He is CEO of Hive.
@macchiata has kept the reading community running and has also served as an OCD curator and connects with people from a ton of different communities and interests through her love of coffee, travel and more. She is CEO of Hive.
@ryivhnn is as loyal as they come and has stayed out of every bit of bullshit over the years only focusing on the good people and connections and interesting posts at Hive. She made me feel welcome here in 2017. She is CEO of Hive.
@depressedfuckup is a relatively new user, a young guy from Ghana who gives me a feel for his generation with fun posts. He’s invited a few friends to Hive. He is CEO of Hive.
If you run a community or have contributed to one, you are CEO.
If you curate or read posts daily, you are CEO.
If you have helped introduce anyone at Hive to anyone else, you are CEO.
If you have invested fiat or other crypto into hive, you are CEO.
If you’ve helped spread the word about Leo or Splinterlands or any other project on hive, you are CEO.
You are a representative of Hive if you are willing to be.
I know this sounds kind of cheesey and yeah I know it’s not a perfect system and it often feels like we aren’t able to make a difference. But if you represent Hive well, Hive will appreciate you for it.
So I had this idea suddenly while responding to something at Hive Twitter.

If anyone wants to pick this up and run with it, feel free to represent Hive. Call yourself the CEO, head of this or that department. Give yourself whatever title you want. Just make sure you explain to anyone who asks that “Hive has no CEO and so we are all CEO”.
If a few people like this idea, I will add “HR at Hive to my twitter profile”.
I honestly feel like this will make for better PR in driving home the point at how much more decentralized Hive is than other blockchains.
Right now no one is really going out there on podcasts and interviews to represent Hive (short of maybe Khal, Aggroed, Starkerz and Dan) because no one feels qualified to do that, but what if hundreds of us did?
I’ve been part of artist collectives before and I find that the more representatives the collective has, the further it’s reach. Rather than having no face, it’s better to have countless faces.
Or maybe I’m wrong and this is a terrible idea 😆 let me know what you think!
