Been a little too deep in the trenches of mixing.
Because this is my first time putting together a full album and taking recording and mixing seriously, I’m learning a whole lot each and every song.
Originally I had not intended on mixing myself and so I was a bit careless with details, but quickly I realized it would be best if I did everything myself, not only for my growth but to define my own sound and avoid back and forth discussions slowing the process down even more. I had much lower hopes for the quality of the recording when I made that decision…
But I discovered I was more capable than I had originally thought and so my standard for myself had been increasing.
Each song I am faced with new problems that I need to fix and in the process of trying to fix them I discover new things.
It’s gotten to the point where you can hear a difference in the quality of recording, and so now I want to go back and clean everything up one more time which obviously creates more work.
I also asked a brass band to perform on one song thinking they might turn me down because of the short deadline but they surprisingly agreed, and so what was planned to be the second single will now become the third single but I need to clean it up before I send it out to them, which will slow down the release of both singles.
All of this means I haven’t started arranging the last full song on the album or written lyrics for a minute long interlude, two things I had hopped to be finished with by now.
But it does mean after a little touching up the rest of the album is just about finished. October will be entirely for completing that song and interlude and preparing for my concert at the end of the month.
I hope to get the second single out by October 10 and then the third single by October 25, just around a week before the release of the album on November 1 the earliest or November 15 the latest.
That way it will be out before we go enjoy a music festival on the other side of Japan and we can tell people about it during that trip, maybe even getting a show nearby a few days after the festival. Let’s see.
In any case, I haven’t posted much because my brain is as focused on music as it can be and I am in producer mode, not sharing mode, plus not much has changed, before we had a bunch of mostly mixed songs and now we have a bunch of fully mixed songs but still have one more to go and it could take anywhere from a week to a month.
Everything is really entirely up to how much this song cooperates, and how long our collaborators take to share
