Hello everyone! My name is Gladness aka Sekani. I'm really excited to be making this post, my first in the freewriters community. I discovered this community a few weeks ago on a Zapfic Monday and it really, was an experience. I especially love the spontaneity of this community, it gives me a rush of adrenaline. Seeing this picture in the early hours of this morning, I just wanted to get right into it. I've not done much fiction in recent years but I hope you love this.

"Shanon!" I smile as I receive a hug for the thousandth time tonight. "I'd never miss your party for the world". "I'm glad you came Cee-cee, it's always a pleasure to host you all" We made some small talk and she excused herself to gist with other co-workers. Like always, this informal get together for me and my co-workers is on the good Friday. Evening party, fun time for everyone but this year, it's not a fun time for me. Jeez! I need some air, a smile here and a touch there, I head for the gardens of the hotel. What was I thinking? I deserve a break, not this. I didn't know loneliness existed until he left.

I absentmindedly settle on one of the gardens chairs as I dab at the threatening tears with my handkerchief. Trying not to panic, I rummage through my purse, two pills and I'm good for the night. I can't let anyone see me like this, no. I felt the coolness as my fingers touched the tiny bottle, my companion for the past few months. I pop two tiny pills in my mouth, one more, a reward for all the smiles and efforts I'm putting in tonight. I sigh.

I must get back before I am missed. Right now, I wish I had a friend but I've always been alone until he came along. Everyone in that room are just names and faces. Perhaps I should get to know them better. No not a good idea, it's better things remain this way: me and my endless lonely journey. Smiled fixed, I step into the room, just in time for my speech. I'll deal with me later.

Thanks for reading through ❤️
