En este día de proclamación y declaración de amor y amistad, quiero entregarles estas palabras del Libertador Simón Bolívar , para sus amigos a través de una carta enviada al Coronel José Leandro Palacios; el 16 de mayo de 1817.
"!Creo en la amistad como un sentimiento puro! y hoy que mis amigos se encuentran dispersos en el exterior, diles que les invito a seguir la lucha libertaria. Diles que sigo siendo el mismo; Diles que la amistad tiene en mi corazón un templo y un tribunal, a los cuales consagro mis deberes, mis sentimientos y mis afectos. Por último, diles que la amistad es mi pasión y que ellos son los objetos que ocupan mi alma y mis sentimientos"
