It was back to Seattle office today. First thing in the morning I had a Teams meeting, but my setup at work was not working, there was no audio so after spending about half an hour trying to fix it I gave up and couldn't join the meeting.
I was able to get some text messages so I found out what the main blocking issue was for Sitecore 10.5 implementation. That is after two days of Sitecore 10.5 testing by the team. After that I was trying to fix an issue with the monitor, but after spending over an hour trying to diagnose why it is not working I gave up and decided to work on a tiny fifteen inch screen.
Going to the Seattle office really is a disaster for my productivity. But after working the rest of the day on the issue that was identified as the show stopper I was able to resolve it even on the tiny screen.
The issue was that all the rich text boxes in our content management system were not saving any changes made in the rich text mode and only in HTML mode.
I used GitHub Copilot agent to login into the Content Management system and replicate clicking on the rich text box, entering text and clicking save and at the same time checking the console for the error messages.
The agent was able to determine eventually the real cause of the issue that turned out to be our customization pinning the jQuery version to an ancient version from ten years ago 1.12.4 instead of using the more modern version that came with Sitecore 10.5.
Naturally it was not that easy as Artificial Intelligence came out first with a bogus theory that I have discarded outright based on my experience then it suggested a couple fixes that would have made things worse instead of fixing the real issue.
So while Artificial Intelligence is great at coding and many other things you have to constantly check on what the agents are trying to do. And keep course correcting it. But it is an amazing productivity enhancing tool for the user that really understands what and how it needs to be done.
Every task I want to get done I now think how I can use an agent to do it. And some tasks are really well suited for the agents. For example, after I fixed jQuery issue with rich text boxes I told the GitHub Copilot agent to do a full audit of our Visual Studio solution for jQuery versions used that are different from the official version used by Sitecore 10.5.
Considering the fact that we have over two million lines of code spread across sixty four projects it was amazing to see it come back with a full report in less than a minute with links to places where code references packages that introduce non compliant versions of jQuery.
Tomorrow is back to the office and hopefully technology is going to work better for me, I might switch out my monitor with someone who is not in the office and see if it works.
At home the same laptop is working perfectly fine with my docking station and my three large monitors that surround me...
