I used to go to the lake every night in the city where I live. The sunsets were dazzling, especially over lake Hefner, in Oklahoma City. That's where I took this shot, using the panorama setting on my iPhone. I'm not a professional photographer, and no one is more surprised than I am when I get a great snap.
This one floored me!
I started taking pictures as a way to overcome PTSD. It's a technique of noticing something beautiful each day and taking a moment to give thanks for it. It can be as simple as noticing something like a leaf blowing in the wind, or the sound of children laughing on the playground, or the way the light dances through the leaves when the wind blows. Because I noticed so many beautiful things each day, I started taking pictures with my phone as a way to capture the beauty.
Taking pictures let me really notice it - and then give thanks for it.
This simple act grounds you in the present. You are fully present and aware in this moment. You aren't thinking about the past, or worried about the future, you are simply here and now.
The secret of this is - that's where your power is - in the present moment.
I hope you try this, if you aren't already practicing it. An attitude of gratitude in the NOW, can change your life!
