The area we are based in is now enforcing a coastal easement zone of 3m. It is something that seems to have been largely overlooked and ignored for a couple of decades but is now ( after the whole Boracay debacle) being enforced nationwide.
When i arrived here 7 years ago the buildings were already here and had been for around 15 years plus. Luckily after measurements were made there's not too much we have to alter or remove but for some it's wholesale demolition. I actually think i can make our dive centre better as a result of the modifications and intend to do just that. Gives us the opportunity to do things we otherwise would consider not appropriate while in full tourism mode.
As tourism is off the menu at the moment due to the Covid-19 situation we are using the available time to do the remodeling now. Many places are choosing to do nothing but if things are to open up and enforcement of the easement zone is checked this could be something they will regret. it keeps us busy and positive which for me is also quite important at this time.
I for one am ooking forward to reopening with a new vibe and new expectations. We have many guests itching to return and it will be interesting to see what they think of the changes we have made to the place.
