Last Sunday, I just started the season 33 of my life. Usually, I would just spend it like any other day, as I did for the past 4 years or so. Sometimes my mom would cook my favorite food, and we would eat together with my sister, but there was nothing overly fancy that we did during the day, as the sentiment was more than enough for me. It's not that I do not want to be with people on this day, but when I still celebrated it at home with friends, I would usually end up with an extreme hangover the next day and still be obligated to help clean up the aftermath of the party.
But this year, things got a little more busy.
Post-birthday, that is, Saturday, we watched the Unshatter documentary at the cinema. It's Linkin Park's documentary on how the band returns after their 7-year hiatus, after the death of Chester Bennington, and how they try to move forward with their new vocalist, Emily Armstrong, and drummer, Colin Brittain, marking the start of the band's From Zero era. Overall, the documentary managed to answer many of the questions that I have about why they decided to continue the band. And thankfully, I brought some tissues because I knew that she would cry during the show.
After the show, we grabbed a quick dinner at Wendy's before we moved on to a cafe, because coffee is life, and so we could talk about the documentary in a more relaxed place. By the time that we were done, it was already 11 PM. While there were more things that we wanted to talk about, she needed to get some rest in the hotel where she was staying cause she had an early flight the next day. The next time that we will see each other is in November.
As soon as I knew that she was already safe, I quickly went home to proceed with my next plan. By the time arrive, it was already Sunday. Since running has been a part of my routine for a year now, what's a better way to start the day than to run with the same kilometers as my age, and by that I have to run 33 kilometers. After taking a quick bath and changing into my running attire, I quickly proceeded by doing some warm-ups to keep myself from any injury. At around 1:30 AM, I started to run, and by around 6:00 AM, I was able to complete my goal. Just in time, because I set a breakfast with my running peers. Nothing fancy, just some coffee and bread. It's kind of my way of giving back to the friends that I meet from this new hobby that we share.
And of course, it will not be complete if we do not have a group picture.
Right after we finished eating, we started to go home. If you haven't noticed yet, I still haven't slept yet since yesterday, so after taking another bath and drying my hair, I quickly proceeded to bed to get some sleep, but if you think that this was where I would end my day, you were wrong.
After I was able to get some sleep, my next destination was to watch the October Music Fest presented by Tau Gamma Phi for their 58th anniversary. I am not a part of any fraternity, but this concert was made open to all people, so long as they purchased a ticket.
Overall, there are 10 bands that play in the concert, which I guessed were members of the fraternity, but it just tells me that there were a hell lot of bands that I haven't heard yet, even in this small province where I live. And with that, I hope this event gives them more exposure to further show their craft to other people.
And the main reason that I am here is that my friends at Setsuna were the main act of the event. I've been very close to the band since February, and whenever I have the opportunity, I go to their gigs, so what's more, if they're within my home base.
It took a while before they arrived, but their sound tech was there, so we were able to stick with them, and was even able to get free food from the organizers.
By the time they arrived, there were only three bands left to perform, but they chose to remain in the band until the last band before them started performing, so we went to them, bringing food from the organizers and some beer to help them relieve their thirst. Well, their vox Toshiro has been telling us how much they wanted to drink, so we just gave him what he asked for, and they willingly accepted it.
As we were chatting, each of the band members wished me a happy birthday, that makes me really happy, and even asked me how I was still alive after 33 kilometers earlier. They're just exaggerating, of course, but I told them I would rise from the dead if I could watch them perform.
After some time, it was finally their time to perform. From the sound check to the last song, the band performed really well, and they even performed one of their unreleased songs for the first time at this event, which made me feel really lucky to be among the first people to hear a new song from them.
Overall, a day that I usually treat similarly to any other day has become so much more memorable thanks to the people that I spent the time with. And because of that, I think that a part of me was already looking forward to the next year.
That was it for this post. Thank you, and see you at the next one.
