Well, here it comes! It seems that starting next season, league caps will be reintroduced in Modern Ranked through the Brackets System. The system was first introduced in Survival Mode, wherein players can choose between different Brackets, with different card level restrictions, to make sure that players can compete with other players the uses the same level of card collection. Under these Brackets, players can continue to increase their rating into the wazoo and not worry that they would encounter matches against players with card levels that were beyond the cap for their chosen Bracket.
One major difference between Survival and Modern Bracket is that there will only be a "Human Only" Bracket in Modern, since the use of any automated services has been banned in the format for a long time. But aside from that, there will also be some changes that could affect how players will approach playing the Modern Format.
Modern Brackets
Similar to the old League caps, Modern Brackets will have the similar Archon and Unit level caps that we are familiar with, meaning if you choose to play on Silver Bracket, you can only play Archons and units up to the Silver cap, even when they have higher levels, or if you choose to play Diamond Bracket, the lowest level your cards should be was at gold level; otherwise, you won't be able to use your cards.
Each Bracket will have a total of 9 Divisions that will be determined based on the player's rating, and each time that a player advances to a new Division, they will be able to earn loot chest rewards. Of course, once you claim the loot chest for a Division, you cannot claim it again until the end of the season, where your rating will reset 2 Divisions lower from the highest Division you achieved.
Looking at the screenshot provided, it seems that the loot chest reward that you can earn from each Bracket was fixed regardless of the Division that you will advance to, so if you ever to reach Division 1 of Silver Bracket, you will still receive 5 Minor Chests and 2 Major Chests, which is fair given that if you claimed all the rewards from the 9 Divisions, that would be a whole lot of chests. However, it also comes with some negatives because once you reach the highest Division, you can only go two Divisions back after the end of the season, and so you can now only claim Loot Chest rewards twice.
Another thing to notice from the screenshot was that from Wood to Silver Bracket, players will also receive additional Glint rewards with each Division that they advanced, maybe to incentivize players playing in the lower leagues, but something that was not clear to me is the Fortune Entry rewards. The Screenshot implies that the max Fortune Entry rewards are capped by each Division. If that were to be the case, will the amount of SPS staked no longer matter when it comes to the number of Fortune entries you can get from each battle? That is like removing an SPS utility because, in order to acquire more Fortune Entries, some players will increase the amount of SPS staked that they have beyond what they need.
Let's hope that was not really the case with Fortune Entries and that SPS was still a major factor in acquiring them.
Closing
To be honest, I do not think that we are really ready for Modern Brackets. Yesterday, I even had a battle against a liquidity bot in Champion I at 4.7k rating that uses level 1 units, so it is also possible that I would encounter this type of super weak team once Brackets were introduced in Modern.
