From the very first day we got our property in Portugal, I thought it would be very useful to have a small trailer to carry stuff around. Yesterday afternoon I drove to one of the biggest trailer dealers in the country to get our new toy.
I decided to choose the biggest one I could get without having to legalize it as it can be driven with the same license plate as the car. It is 240cm long by 133 wide and they offer several addons to complement which I may end up purchasing later as I start using it and learning the way to get the best out of it. I only purchased the cover as I want to keep whatever I carry dry in the event it rains while using it. This it the image parked at home with the cover.
The main usage will be carrying stuff from home to the property, which is a 10-hour drive, carrying wood and materials for the property rebuild, and of course, carrying fruits and olives when we harvest them.
The trailer has an added braking system and it is authorized to carry up to 750 Kg including its weight, so it leaves room for 500 Kg, half a ton. The trip back home was 1,5hrs so I had a chance to feel how it is to drive with it although it was empty and I imagine pulling it with weight will be different.
The most difficult part is driving in reverse gear with it. I will have to practice in a big parking lot to learn how to deal with that. I can't wait to start using it!
