As summer arrived my hometown where I am presently living was hit by severe water crisis. It happens every year when the municipality orders to ration water and residents are requested to use water cautiously. I know the need of water and also understand that my grandkids need water to survive. I have taught my kids how precious water is and have also explained to them how the water source is depleting and we need to use it carefully.

During the days when the water was rationed, I switched on the water pump to push the water to the overhead tank from the underground tank. I for some reason happened to be busy with my work and missed to hear the water overflowing which had by then happened for the first time ever. My neighbour came running to my house and gave me a good 10 minute hearing on how irresponsible I was for letting the precious source of life waste. Well, I admit it was my mistake and apologised for the same. I was very very careful after the incident.
The monsoons have now got this side of the coast and the municipality have now declared that there is no water shortage. Now we are blessed with 24 hour water supply. Today, while I was in my kitchen I could hear water flowing. I rushed outside to check if it was ours, but no. I looked everywhere and discovered that it was from our same neighbour's house who had educated me on the water usage. I thought she doesn't know about it and rushed to tell her that her tank is overflowing and I was shocked at her response.
She told me that she knows that the water is flowing out, but then there is no shortage, so she felt there is no urgency to switch it off and she could do it when her favourite TV show gets over. I was shocked at her response. Probably she doesn't know that we need to be careful throughout the year so that the city doesn't face water shortage every year during summers.
