Greetings!
The saying that good begets good is not just a saying, but a very deep one at that, although, that's no more the case in our current dispensation as people now pay evil with evil and this to me is a very bad thing that should not be found among humans in the society as it will only stop many of us who are trying to do good from doing good.
Having said so much about doing good and its effect on our society, I would like to delve into the topic of the prompt before which is all about, “The good chain.”
This is an interesting topic for me to interact with as it has to do with what I have experienced before. I will start with a friend of my dad who helped me when there's nothing that could be used by me to pursue my tertiary education.
Then, after the demise of my mum who was the support pillar of our family, everything was rough and tough for us as a family as we only live to eat what comes our way, if at all we have to eat. It's really a tough moment for us to behold as a family.
So, just because of the hardship in the family, I didn't see myself as someone who would go further in my educational journey. Although I tried my best by working at a construction company as a casual worker in order to raise funds for my tertiary education, all was to no avail as all the money I gathered was lost to a contribution at the place where I was working. It's at that juncture that I gave up on my dream of going to university.
However, after I had lost hope just as a result of my lost money in the weekly contribution, the unexpected happened and my hope came alive again and this time around, it was not about the contribution, but by the special intervention of God the Almighty who sent a helper to me through my dad's friend pastor Makinde. This man just from no where called my dad on a particular night having lost contact with him for a very long time.
He said he got my dad's number from his younger brother and after they both greeted and discussed their pasts together, the man asked about me and my educational journey, that's when my dad started narrating everything that has happened to his friend.
When the man heard all that had happened, he was moved with emotion and promised to help me throughout my educational journey. This he did all through my four years in the university till even after my graduation. The man really does me good.
So, ever since then, I too in my little way have been helping people who are going or passing through what I have once passed through as I have vowed that I would continue with the good that the man did to me. The recent one I did was to pay for the WAEC fee of a student of mine who is brilliant but has a poor mother who was a widow. I made sure I paid for the exam and also tutor him free of charge and to the glory of God, the boy passed excellently well and has gained admission into the university of his choice studying computer science. This alone is making me happy as I have paid for the vow made by me and I have also told the boy also to look for others who he can help when he's okay.
In conclusion, it's good to do good as one day will be one day when we are going to reap our good deeds.
