This life is actually a small world. You might not know who will be of help to you later in the future, which is why I'm always conscious of how I relate with people. There are times I'm always skeptical of helping people because of few bad experiences I had in the past. Will these experiences stop me from from being good? Not at all. I too have enjoyed being help by someone and I won't deprive anyone as well.
It is true that there are phases in life, I remember a time in my life when I was stucked and I needed help urgently. I don't know what to do at that time. This phase I was talking about was during my project work at the university. my project topic was a complex one that I don't know where to start from but my project supervisor encouraged me to start and not to worry.
When I went ahead to estimate the amount needed for the project, it was a huge amount. I did not know how to raise such amount of money knowing that my parents are retirees. When I thought that's was the only challenge, another challenge arise which was my sample size. I'm expected to work with 249 blood samples. The question i asked myself was how do I get people who will be willing to offer their blood samples. It was really a huge task.
I raised all my concerns with my project supervisor and she promised to help out by reaching out to people who could render assistance in one way or the other. I was so excited, then I went ahead to summit my project proposal for ethical approval. On the day I submitted, I went to inform her that I already submitted and she advise and encourage me, only did I know that it will be last time I will ever see her again.
The next morning, it was the news of her sudden demise I heard, what could have happened overnight, only God knows. I was heartbroken because I find it hard to believe her sudden demise. I broke down in tears. I because overwhelmed because she's the only one I know who could be of help at that time.
After few weeks, my project was approved and I was assigned to a new supervisor. The supervisor I was assigned to was a busy man who does have time due to his busy schedules. Most times I have to book for an appointment before I could see him in person. After alot of back and forth, he referred me to a fellow colleagues of his who is not has busy as he was to assist me. That was how the journey to my research work started.
At a point when I was stuck and did not know what to do. I remembered my late project supervisor mentioned a senior colleagues of her's who she wanted to direct me to, which she could no longer do due to her sudden demise.
So I took a bold step and went to seek help and guidance as regards my project topic from the professor. I'm grateful I took that bold step then. He helped me by linking me with a technologist who assisted me in reading about 500 microscope slides at a cheap amount. I was able to get a supplier who delivered about 250 rapid diagnostic test at a cheaper price through him. To crown it all, I was able to run molecular analysis on 250 samples for free through the help of this same man. It was as if God was intentional about me by surrounding me with good people.
After the whole laboratory work, write-up, project defence and more. Guess what? My project came out the best. Not only that, I had the highest score. I could not have achieved it alone without the help of these good people who helped me throughout the process; their words of encouragement encouraged me never to give up. Their good works motivated me to be good and kind to whomever I come across in life.
Indeed, it pays to be good because you don't know who will be of help to you in the future.
