One of the things that you should understand is that you are not in this world to pass away time or just to count numbers, or to fill space, you have a specific function and duty that you are meant to fulfil. If you have the mentality that you are here for a purpose, then you will learn to maximise each time that you spend on something worthwhile. The truth is that people are to feel your presence positively, and if they do not, then you are not fulfilling the purpose you are meant to. If your absence is not felt when you are gone, then the simple explanation to it is that your presence was not well utilized.

Anywhere you find yourself, always try to add value. There are many things you can do even from where you are to make life better for someone else or to add value generally to humanity. Once you are adding value, then you are creating and increasing your net-worth. If you can easily be replaced, then the value you add is little or nonexistent. In your place of work for example, there is how important you will become by reason of your dedicated actions, and you will become an asset to the organisation. Even if they want to downsize their workforce, they would obviously not let you go. Of course, no sane company lets their best hands to go.

In order to increase your value and to make yourself truly living with impacts to show for it, you have to learn to work on yourself - update, upgrade, and up-skill yourself. If all you know now and all you can do now is what you knew last year without adding anything to it, then you may already have started losing relevance. Your relevance is a direct function of the value created. The world is already moving very quickly, so you also need to match the same speed with upgrading yourself. Go for more knowledge, acquire new skills or improve on your old ones.

It is worthy to note that when you are gone, you will not be remembered because of how long you lived in the world or how your status was, but you will be remembered by the level of impact you were able to create while you were living. If you want to be different, then you have to step up beyond the norms and do things differently. You cannot do what everyone else does in exactly the manner they do it and then hope for it to be outstandingly different. The world has provided you with the fairest playing ground - equal 24hours in a day, but the benefit you draw from these hours is dependent on what you do with them.

You have to get to a point in life when you ask yourself this simply question; "what do you want to be remembered for?" Do you want to be remembered for the problems that you helped humanity to solve or the ones you created yourself? You have to also note that this is without recourse to how old you live. There are some people that lived so long and saw many decades and maybe century, but all that could be remembered of them is just their age; no other thing. But there are others that, even in their mid-years, they have achieved so much to put themselves in the history books of record.

In the Nigerian currency of the 20 Naira denomination, the picture that is immortalized there is that of General Murtala Muhammad. Adorable, he died at the age of 37. But within the years he spent, he already attained the highest rank in the army, and even became the Head of State (and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces) during the military era. All these before the age of 37. This is just to let you know that impact is not a function of age but of value, impact, worth and importance.

The truth is that there is how important you will be to humanity and the world will not want to lose you. As a matter of fact, they will be scared of the thoughts of losing you. But if you are not adding any value in life, then there will be nothing to remember you for, and you can easily be replaced. There are many things you can do for the sake of humanity that will be part of what will be remembered you for. The reason why you have light is for you to shine it for the dark world to see, not for you to hide it under a bushel.

The world is already ladened with so much ills, darkness, cruelty, and misdeeds, so much that the little acts of goodness you show to someone might go a long way to make a very big and unprecedented difference in their life. You should not wait until others show you goodness before you reciprocate, they are only showing who they are. Then you should also show who you are and be good to them. The only way to overcome evil is by confronting it with goodness. The goodness you show today is what you will be remembered for tomorrow.
