One of my mentors once said that "it is the difficult things you do that saves you from difficult life." A lot of people prefer tasks that are easy, comfortable, convenient, and familiar. This is because difficult tasks often require more patience, a lot of work, discipline, efforts, persistence, and even sacrifices. This can explain why some people avoid challenges as much as they seem possible. But what they fail to understand is that there are some of the life's lessons, opportunities, and achievements that can come by doing difficult things. The experience you get from doing difficult things can bring about a lot of benefits and long-term success.

A friend of mine who studied accountancy wanted to become chartered. So he registered to write the popular "ICAN" examination that will make him a chartered accountant. This was when he knew that his routine would have to change. Before that time, he used to hang out with his friends after work, and they would stay there till late night, then when he came back home, he would go straight to sleep. Then he would wake up in the morning, prepare for work, and then the circle kept repeating. But when he registered for the exam, a lot of things changed. He knew he was not going to maintain that easy life he once hard.
When he got back from work, while his friends would be relaxing and hanging out, he would devote long hours to study his materials, and past questions. The process was stressful, difficult, and he had to make a lot of sacrifices. The exam finally came and he wrote it. It was tough and challenging, but he was glad that he met what he read. When the result came out, he was among the very few that passed in his centre. This opened a lot of opportunities to him that he never knew were available. The benefits were even far more than just passing the exam, it came with a lot of things.
It is the difficult things you do today that will give you the kind of easy life you want tomorrow. When I talk about doing difficult things, I do not mean that you should make your life harder than it should be. But it means that you have conditioned yourself to face the necessary challenges that can help you grow, improve, and reach your desired potentials. Whether it is in your place of work, maybe starting a new business, in your personal life, learning new skills, or even developing a good habit, the truth is that difficult tasks will produce the kind of results that you may not get if you go with the easy choices. This is why I normally tell people that the choices you make today will be part of what will create your tomorrow and make you who you are.

One of the benefits of doing difficult things is that it leads to personal growth. More often than not, you achieve growth when you dare to step out of your comfort zone. That it, when you accept and face challenges, you will discover the hidden strength that you have always had that you may not have known you had. As a matter of fact, difficult situations can make you to think differently, and to see life from an entirely different perspective. When you are faced with difficult moments, you will be surprised what you can discover. It might even force you to learn new skills, improve on yourself, develop your confidence, and improve your abilities.
Doing difficult things also lead to mental toughness. Life may not be predicted, because it can come with challenges and so on. This is why you need to build yourself mentally to face what life brings your way. People who regularly avoid difficult things often struggle when problems arise. Imagine a soldier who refuses to train, if war comes, he may become the first causality. When you keep facing and overcoming difficult moments, you will better equip yourself to handle pressure, disappointments, setbacks, and uncertainties, because you have trained yourself to persist through difficulties. When you undertake difficult tasks, it also makes you more disciplined, and gives you the confidence to face even bigger challenges and overcome them.
