One of the major undoings of many people is trying to live who they are not. When it comes to spending, there should be certain things that you need to observe: Firstly, do not spend because you want to impress people. You may end up blowing up your pocket and you will still not impress them. Moreover, even if you impress them, of what benefit will it be to you if you go broke in the process? More so, one has to limit their expenditures to what their current financial state can carry. That is "cutting one's coat according to the available materials." Let us take a look at ways to minimise one's spendings.

1. Reducing unnecessary bills
There are bills that can be reduced or even cut off completely and they will not affect you adversely. For example, if you are going to be away from your house for over a month, why subscribe for the cable and it will be wasting while you are away? It will be better to stop it until you are back, and in that way, you have cut that expenses. A friend was discussing with me how much he was able to save by getting rid of some societies' membership that he no longer uses. He belonged to over 6 societies that normally pay monthly identity renewal fee. At a point, he discovered that he was not even active in almost all of them but was still paying the renewal fee. When he finally got rid of them, you can imagine how much he was able to save.
There are some bills that are obviously unnecessary and you do well without them, you can reduce these bills to avoid putting strain on your pocket. Imagine someone that is an average income earner trying to subscribe for a club membership whose fees are well above his income and meant for top executives. Coping might be almost impossible for him.
2. Doing certain things by yourself
There are some services that you need to provide for yourself and not contracting external person for it, so as to minimise your spendings. For example, going to the car wash daily; if you cannot afford it; will put strain on your pocket. The better option will be to do the washing by yourself. You can also learn some basic home DIY (do it yourself) so that you can fix things easily without paying for the services of someone else. For example, you can sew your torn clothes by yourself instead of taking them to the tailor.
This era has made it easier to get any kind of information one may need from the internet. In YouTube, for example, there are channels that teach basic DIYs which you can lay your hands on and learn somethings to help you at home. A friend of mine taught himself generator servicing from YouTube. From that time, he never took his generator to the mechanic again because he does everything at home. Normally, he paid for services every 2 weeks, but now, he does it by himself and you can imagine how much he has been saving by that.
3. Spend on your needs
People should learn how to spend wisely and smarter. They should focus more on their needs before going for their wants. To do this, there is a need to draw up budget of how you will spend your money and this will serve as a guide to you, and also prevent you from engaging in impromptu buying. Sometimes, people are moved to buy things because the shop or the item is on sale. They forget that there is a probability that the price of the item may have been excessively increased before then and then lowered to reflect the sales and to make you think they are on sale. Well, even if they are truly on sale and have given true discounts, the question is; do you need the item or you just want to buy it because they are on sale?

If you cannot afford a particular product, there are other alternatives to the same product that you can go for. Do not force yourself to believe that you can afford a particular product. For example, when buying clothes and you find out that a designer is way beyond your budget, you can go for other brands or even a generic wear, and you will be just fine. If you cannot afford something now, you should not feel bad about it, it does not mean you will not be able to afford much bigger things tomorrow, so just keep working on yourself and keep growing your finances.
