Success is not an automatic destination that you arrive at overnight. It is more like a journey, and as such, it requires patience, discipline, determination, and the willingness that is required to go through various stages of growth. Just like when you climb a physical ladder, every step you take will keep bringing you closer to the height you want to get to. In the same way in life, the steps you take will be what will lead you to the results you desire. One of the major undoings of a lot of people is that they want to get to the top without appreciating the various processes that will take them to the top. You have to understand that every stage in growth has something significant to teach. If you have to rise, then you have to learn to embrace every stage of growth in the ladder of success.

The first stage of growth that you should embrace is the starting point. No one starts climbing from the top. Everyone that has attained a height and achieved greatness started from somewhere. Some even started with limited resources, little experience, and a lot of uncertainties. That you started small does not mean that you will remain in that state. Of course, your current position is not an absolute determinant of your final destination. This is why you have to learn to appreciate how far you have come, and this will help you to continue to be encouraged to take more steps. You may have a small beginning, but it does not mean that you will have a small future. The small beginnings, the little opportunities, and the small steps are all part of your journey, and you have to appreciate them.

You also need to understand that every level you get to will have lessons to teach you. Not just lessons, but experiences and responsibilities. There are lessons that you can only learn in challenges. There are opportunities you can only see when you are patient. There are hidden strengths that you can only realise when you are faced with tough times. You should not be in a hurry to leave a particular stage that you have learnt absolutely nothing from. More often than not, it is the experience that you gain at a lower level that will eventually become the wisdom that you will apply in order to succeed at a higher level. Growth is not just about moving upwards, it is about becoming better and improving on yourself.

It is also worthy to note that you should be patience with your journey and your progress. One of the major reasons why people abandon their dreams or their goal is because they expect quick results. When they see other people getting their results, they begin to question their own journey. But what they failed to understand is that some of these people may have put in actions for years before they saw the result. After all, you are not in any competition with them. That someone else is climbing faster than you does not mean that you are not making progress. Just keep working, keep making improvements, and respect your pace. What matters is not really how fast you climb, but that you are moving in the right direction towards success.

Even if you experience any setback, do not allow it to discourage you from climbing. There may be moments when you will experience failed attempts, loss of opportunities, disappointments, mistakes, etc. But a setback does not indicate an end of the journey. Sometimes it might even give you an opportunity to learn, get better, gather more experiences, and become stronger. A lot of the people who have succeeded also had moments when they experienced setbacks. The people who succeed are not necessarily those who have never experienced setback in life, but does who did not allow the setback to become their final destination.

As you are in one level, you need to prepare yourself for the next level. Do not wait until you get to the new level before you prepare for it. This is why you have to continuously work on yourself, improve yourself, and become better. Everything you experienced in the current level, including the good and the bad, even the successes and failures, can become lessons to position you for the next level. On the same hand, if you do not want to experience in your next level what you experienced in your present and former levels, then you need to try a different approach. Always have in mind that the next level is not just about where you want to go, but it is also about the person you need to become.
