As the days go by, the cruelty in the world seems to be on the increase, that little good or kindness shown to someone can create a level of happiness that cannot be imagined. You will be surprised how a lot of people are passing through intensely difficult times that the only thing they need to have hopes in living might just be your love, kindness, and goodness. It is what you make to happen for others that will ultimately become your portion. If you seek for the happiness of others, you will not lack happiness.

A few days back, I entered a road-side shop to buy a few things, and an elderly woman also entered to buy a sachet of water (what we call "pure water" in this part of the world). The water goes for 20 of the local currency but she had 1000 note, so it will be difficult to get change for her. As such, the shop owner would not sell to her, and told her that she does not have change. She looked so thirsty and tired. So I told the shop owner to give her the water and include it in my bill since I was also buying other things. She felt so happy that I could see it from her face.

After she had taken the water, she looked at me, smiled and dropped a heartfelt "thank you." I felt so happy that I had created happiness in someone. This was when I realized that some of the good things of life, which can trigger happiness, are actually free. Who would have thought that something as little as a sachet of water could make someone this happy? It is actually not the size of what is done that matters sometimes, but the heart it is done from, the timeliness, and the availability. To a thirsty person, a very expensive bottle of Azul wine will not make meaning to them, but a glass of water will.

Each time you have the opportunity to do good to someone, see it as an opportunity to create happiness, which will also have a ripple effect back to you too. You will agree with me that there is a kind of happiness that is triggered from within when you know that someone is happy because of you. I have learnt one thing over time, and have made it part of my habit; in each passing day, I try to positively impact someone and put smile on their face. You may not see the effects at the moment, but posterity will surely remember it. What you do today is exactly what you will be remembered for tomorrow.

Always ask yourself what you want your memory to be remembered for; for the happiness you created or the one you removed. If at your presence, people feel unhappy, then you are not doing something right. But if people are happy when you are around, then you are doing things right. If people do not miss you when you are gone, then you did not maximise your presence. It is worthy to note that what you sow is exactly what you will get as harvest. By inference, if you sow happiness, it will come back to you as harvest. But if you sow sadness, you will reap that.

You are supposed to be an addition ro humanity. That is, through you, humanity should get better. The kind of world you want to see should start from your own individual actions. If you want a happier world, then you are to be a source of happiness to the world around you. How you relate with the people around you; family, neighbours, friends, etc, will also determine how they will relate with you. If you cause them to be unhappy, they will also reciprocate it to you and you will become unhappy. But if you always create room for happiness, then you will also enjoy the benefits of being happy.

One of the things to understand is that happiness is not a gift, neither is it an endowment - that is, no one is born and given the gift of being happy. It is purely a product of the choices that you have made. If you want happiness, and by extension; a happier world, then you have to consciously make it as a choice.
