A friend once said that "the things that cause breakup in relationships are mostly little things that are easily overlooked." Just like in a vine for example, it is not the mighty elephant that wrecks the most damages but the little foxes. In our last post, we took a consideration of some seemingly little things that have the propensity to cause harm in a relationship and we will be concluding it here. It is worthy to note that the knowledge of these misdeeds will help one to prevent them in a relationship.

1. Lack of proper communication

Any healthy relationship thrives on proper communication. Anytime that communication becomes breached, other things can creep in and the relationship may go sour. Someone once narrated how her last relationship ended: her partner did something to her and instead of asking him to know the reasons or the explanation of why it was done, she started giving him "silent treatment." All attempts to get her to explain why there is a sudden lack of communication seemed futile, because she was angry with him. The guy was not even aware of what she thought he did.

Well, after a while of the lady not talking to him, everything went really sour and one challenge led to the other, and they finally went apart. Sadly, after some weeks, the lady found out that what she thought the guy did was not actually done by him and she assumed wrongly, but by then it was already late. If she had communicated with him about it, she would not have assumed wrongly and her relationship would have been preserved. In Relationship, you have to take note of the fact that when proper communication is lacking, many other things may follow suit. Like love will dwindle and attention may become lessened. So try to always make room for proper and adequate communication between you and your partner.

2. Lack of trust

If you cannot trust your partner, then why are you in the relationship with them in the first place? However, one should also know that trust cannot be enforced between both parties, and it cannot also be bought, it has to be earned. That it, if you want to be trusted, then it is important that you should show yourself to be trustworthy at all times. If you say yes, then let your "yes" be a sincere and truthful "yes." If your partner finds out that you have not been trustworthy or that you have faltered in one thing, they may lose trust in you in other things.

It is important to know that trust is not what comes at the press of a button, it is also not what is delivered to someone, but you build it over time and with conscious efforts. Nonetheless, you will be surprised that the trust that someone took a long time to build can come down crashing in a twinkle of an eye if the person derails from the right path and trails on the wrong path. You have to preserve your trust by continually proving to be trustworthy. Also, learn to trust your partner and they will also reciprocate the trust. Do not judge their intentions by what someone else has told you, so that you will not break your own relationship with your hands.

3. Infidelity

A lot of people know about this point and will not even group it under the "little fox" but a major issue. However, I want to point out one thing in respect to this. Many people think that Infidelity or cheating is only limited to the act of having unwholesome affair outside of one's relationship. Well, that is among it, but if your intentions and your thoughts are already drawing towards that side, then you already have the proclivity of cheating. So to stop the action, you have to stop the thought that would lead to the action. A friend of mine once made a statement in this regards, he said:

If you start deleting messages so that your partner will not see them, then you have already started cheating.

You see, in the context of cheating, you need to beware of what will expose you to cheat. For example; if you know that going to an opposite gender's house and staying alone with them will ultimately lead you to do some unwholesome things, then you should avoid it. Trust me, it is far better to prevent something from going bad than to repair it when it has already gone bad. If your partner finds out about your Infidelity, they will lose trust in you and it may even affect your relationship. So take note.

Peace on y'all
