It has really been an amazing year in all ramifications. If you take a look at where you started on the first day of this year and then compare it to where you are at the ending part of the year, you will realise that there are many things to be grateful for. You made it this far into the 11th hour of the year, not because you are the most qualified, but because of privileges which you should be thankful for. Okay I ask you; what did you pay specially to nature to earn the life which you have now? This is why I see it as a gift, and if it is a gift, then it should be appreciated and be happy for it.

It is worthy to note that gratitude or appreciation does not mean that you got every single thing you ever wanted, rather it means that you are happy for the ones you got and that you value them. The year may not have been what you intended it to be at the beginning of the year, but the truth is that you were still blessed beyond measures. If you can just take a moment to think about the blessings of the year, then you will appreciate more. Truly, there are many things to be grateful for and there are things that we have gotten that we neither merited nor qualified for.

You may have witnessed a couple of challenges in the year, but for the fact that the challenges did not consume you should be enough reason to be grateful. Even if you may have lost a few things within the year, but at least you did not lose your life and that means you did not lose everything, so still be grateful. You may have had plans of what to achieve for the year and the height you may have wanted to attain. But if you have gotten better from what you were last year, even if you did not achieve all you wanted to, you should know that you have actually improved and for that, be grateful.

I remember when a friend of mine came to complain to me about a particular thing which he has tried so hard yet could not achieve. He was so engrossed by the thoughts and actions of what he wanted to achieve that he forgot what he actually had and gotten over the time. After his complaint, I opened his eyes to see how blessed he was and the many things he had achieved which a lot of people are still hoping to achieve, he became grateful. Why a lot of people complain is simply because they do not think well enough to count their blessings. Instead of focusing on the 1/10 that is not working for you, it is better to focus more on the other 9/10 that are working.

Since the year began, up to this moment, there is no how you can say that you have not received any good thing. As a matter of fact, many of the things people tend to overlook as being too common are actually underrated blessings. For example; good health. If you have never been sick or seen someone really ill, you may not appreciate fully what good health is - so tell me why you should not be grateful for it? You should also be grateful for the gift of people; the family that gave you a sense of belonging, the friends that stood by you in trying times, the acquaintances that provided help to you in diverse ways, and even the enemies that made you learn lessons to be wiser.

Your attitude of gratitude should not just be based on what is happening or not happening, rather it should be from within you, and it should be a lifestyle. If you cannot be grateful for "one," it may prevent you from seeing the "two" and even if you see it, you will still not be grateful. If you learn to be grateful, you will become happier with life. When you are happier, you tend to attract good things. For everything that you have experienced this year, you should be grateful. For going all the way from the first of January to this day, is more than enough to be grateful.
