More often than not, the step you fear the most, or the action you are scared of taking, or the risk you dread the most is what holds the breakthrough that you are seeking. It is normal to be scared of a step that you have not taken before, but it should not stop you from taking the step nonetheless. If you allow your fears to deter you from taking actions, then you have allowed it to limit you from advancing. If you can look beyond your fears and take that daring step, you will be surprised what you have been missing all these while by not taking the step.

The truth is that there is no way to overcome a fear until you have faced and confronted it. Of course, it is by doing what you are scared of that you tend to gain mastery over fear. What you should also understand about fear is that, most times, what you tend to fear is only nonexistent. That is, it does not exist in reality but only in the fragments of your imagination. It is weird to know that a lot of people are the ones that have created what they are afraid of. If you can take that daring step, your fears will keep reducing.

Most of the fears that are known to humans are not congenital but what they developed over the time. Going by nature, humans should not be born with more than the fear of falling and maybe the fear of loud noise (as indicated in many science journals). This means that if you have more than these, then you probably learnt them. But the good thing is that it is also possible to overcome and live above them, just the same way you learnt them. To be able to overcome your fear, you need determination to do so, but this will also start from taking step towards what you are scared of.

If you are afraid of failing at an attempt, why not make the attempt first? It will even surprise you that you may succeed at that attempt, and you have been scared in vain. Even if you did not succeed at it initially, it is still better that you have taken the step, because you must have learnt a couple of new things to make you better. Trust me, fear is only as strong as you have ascribed it to be. When you feed it by not taking steps, it will keep you bound and keep looking big. But when you keep taking steps without giving attention to your fear, your fear will leave you alone.

I remember a time I was so scared of a particular professional exam sometimes in the past. This was because of what many people was saying about the exam and how difficult it was. In the words of one of my friends that had written the exam before and did not pass, he said that "it was easier to fail the exam than getting an A."

However, one day, I decided to face it squarely and see for myself. Before then, I had studied extensively even with past questions.

During the course of my studies, I realized that I could actually answer the past questions, so I wondered why they said it was too difficult. The more I studied, the easier the past questions became, and I finally saw reasons with myself on why I will pass the exam. I scheduled the exam and went in with the consciousness that it will be a walkover. Amazingly, it was even easier than I thought. I finished before time and submitted. A few days later, the results came out and I passed excellently. If I had allowed fear to deter me from writing the exam, I would not have known that I can actually pass it in one attempt.

If you give unnecessary attention to your fear, they will continue to appear bigger until it overwhelms you. But if you commonize it and then take the actions you want, you will overcome it. I remember the words of my friend as I conclude with it. He said:

If you keep running away from what you fear, it will keep coming after you until it has consumed you. Face it and it will run from you.
