Getting friends and acquaintances is one thing and retaining them is another thing. I know some people that do not have difficulty in making new friends but the major challenge is to keep them for a while. Just to let you know, retaining of friendship has more to do than just beauty, it requires a combination of character, attitude and sacrifices.

Starting with sacrifices:
For friendship to thrive, the parties involved should understand that a true friendship should be built on a symbiotic and mutualism relationship, and not on parasitic association where only one person benefits. The parties involved should be willing to make sacrifices within their capacity for each other. Friendship is not supposed to be a burden on just one person but one which everyone benefits from.
Do not always focus your mind on what to gain from the friendship, but try to also think of what to bring to the table. Believe me, your goodness will naturally be reciprocated. Believe me, your friends can sense when the relationship is symbiotic or parasitic, so anytime you begin to lose friends, don't be quick to misjudge your friends but try to question yourself first. If you are the only one right among your friends, then you are either wrong or with the wrong company.
If no one can point out distinctly to the sacrifices you have made for them or the extra mile you have gone for them, then your friendship is heavily questionable. True friends is basically built on willingness to take sacrifices.
Coming to the area of character and attitude:
Have you ever wondered why flies don't perch on hot food? The same thing happens when your attitude is "hot". It will become non-conducive for friends to come around you. Bad attitude is bad and no one loves to be treated rudely. Bad attitude is just like a bad tooth, it will affect the functioning of the whole mouth until it is removed.
Before you treat someone with rudeness, ask yourself if you will be happy if someone else serves you the same kind of rudeness. Always remember that everyone has emotions and your actions can crack them, so be cautious how you treat people. People naturally tilt away from an environment that is not conducive. In the same way, when your friends begin to see that you are not "user-friendly", they will take a walk.

The first step to getting and consolidating on friendships is making yourself friendly. You must meet the exact qualities you desire in a friend. If you want to have funny people around, then you should also have a comical disposition. Just as it has been said; "likes" will always flow along with "like". So be the kind of friend you need and you will see how easy it is to consolidate on friendship.
