The beauty of life is when it is not centred entirely around you. It is true that there is nothing wrong with having ambitions, dreaming big, building a career, pursuing success, achieving your personal goals, and even enjoying the fruit of your labour. However, in order to live a truly fulfilling life, you have to go beyond asking what you can get from life, and ask yourself what you can give to life. You have to understand that your life has the power to influence other people. For example, your words, your knowledge, your resources, your experience, your talents, your time, can all become instruments to improve someone's life for the better.

It is true that you may not be able to change the whole world, but you can make a difference in the world around you. You will be surprised to know that some of the greatest impacts usually come from the seemingly ordinary actions. There are various areas that are required that you should live beyond yourself. The first place is your family. You should make your life count within your family. This goes beyond providing for your family, you also need to be present for them. Like encouraging your family members, respecting them, building love within them, etc. You family may not remember what you bought for them. They may not also remember what you have. But they will certainly remember the impact and your positive influence on their lives. No matter how successful you are, having a meaningful family is what makes you fulfilled.
In addition to family, another area where you need to look beyond yourself is in your community. There will always be something that you can contribute to your community. It can be through volunteering work, helping someone within your community find an opportunity, supporting a local initiative that can help someone, or maybe provide assistance to someone who is in need. You do not need an enormous amount of resources to be able to create an impact. Something as little as information, advice, or speaking up for someone, can create an impact in the life of someone even beyond what you can expect. As part of the community, they should be able to feel your presence and they should know that you are part of their lives.
Beyond your community, you also need to live beyond yourself in your place of work and in your business. Your work should not be only about collecting salary and remuneration. Wherever you work, and in whatever thing you do, you have to look for a way to make people feel better. Help your teammates to grow. Help your colleagues in a difficult task. Mentor the people who are coming behind you. Then treat your customers and your clients with respect. You have to approach your work with the mindset of service. This will make you to see even an ordinary job as a platform to create meaningful impact.
Another very vital area you need to live beyond yourself in the people you meet. Everyday you live, you will come across different people, and some of them might be facing one form of difficulty or fighting hidden battles. A kind word you speak to them, a listening ear you give them, a simple act of generosity can help them to keep going. Do not underestimate the power in your attitude. When people meet you, you have to try to make them feel better than they were. Let your presence bring a positive addition in their life.

Finally, the ways of living beyond yourself is to invest in the next generation, and the people coming after you. You have to understand that everything should not start and end with you. Teach, mentor, and inspire the young ones. Share your experience with them so that they can learn from it. Remember that one of the greatest legacies you will leave behind is not your material possessions, but the people who became better because you lived. Living beyond yourself is about making your existence to be meaningful. It is not just about living, but about making impact with your life. When you leave a place or you leave someone, you have to try to make them better than you met them. This is what it means to live beyond yourself.
