Modern Brackets have been getting a lot of attention, and it looks like they're gradually being improved through small updates. There were some fixes in this morning's update, too.

There are three things about Modern League that caught my attention.

1. Ratings and leagues are reset based on the most recent season played.

No problem with this one.

It only affects people who change their Bracket during the season, find it too difficult, and decide to switch back to their previous Bracket. And even for those players, it's a positive change rather than a negative one, so there's nothing to complain about.

2. Fixed an issue with the number of players in Modern tournaments.

At first, I thought this was about the issue from last season, when bots were included in the player count, but apparently it's something a little different.

I'm not quite sure what it means for a player to "start playing after the season ends," but I guess something was going on.

Actually, I noticed that the number of Gold League players had decreased this morning. Or so I thought, but wait... I checked again, and the number has gone back up...?

3. Added SPS pool information to the Modern tournament leaderboard.

This is probably the change that interests me the most. We can now see how much SPS is allocated to the Bracket we play in.

LEADERBOARD

There's a new entry called "MAX SPS Pool:". This should make it easier to calculate the expected SPS rewards at EOF (End Of Season), which is great.

So, how much should I expect to receive now...? Huh? That can't be right. Could I really get more than 1,000 SPS? Even though there aren't even half as many players as the "Full Reward Players:" figure?

Let's do some calculations.

The total SPS pool for Modern Gold is 1,050,000 SPS, and 12% of that should be 126,000 SPS, right? Huh?

Max SPS Pool:

146,205 SPS? That's quite a difference! 🤔

In the original proposal , the figure was 1,500,000 SPS. If we calculate using that amount:

1,500,000 × 0.12 = 180,000 SPS.

That doesn't match either.

Then was it the 900,000 SPS figure I'd heard about before?

900,000 × 0.12 = 108,000 SPS.

That doesn't match, either.

What the heck is this number supposed to represent?

Since I couldn't figure it out, I decided to work backward from "MAX SPS Pool:".

The SPS allocation percentage for Gold League (Bracket IV) is 12%.

Next, the player-count ratio is 120 ÷ 300 = 0.4.

And the "MAX SPS Pool:" for Gold League is 146,205 SPS.

So, the total SPS pool for Modern League implied by these numbers would be...

146,205 ÷ 0.4 ÷ 0.12 = 3,045,937.5 SPS.

There's no way! 🍌

More than 3 million SPS? That can't be right, can it? Something must be wrong somewhere. How much SPS is actually available for rewards?

MODERN BRACKETS

While looking at the figures for each Bracket, I noticed something...

Could it be that the player-count ratio isn't reflected in the "MAX SPS Pool:" value?

Silver League shows 73,102.5 SPS, while Gold League shows 146,205 SPS. That's exactly twice as much. The allocation percentages are 6% and 12%, respectively, which is also a twofold difference.

And Wood League (Bracket I) shows 12,183.75 SPS.

The ratio of Wood : Silver : Gold is 1 : 6 : 12, which matches the ratio of the "Bracket SPS Pool:" allocations.

Ah, I see! The player-count ratio hasn't been applied to these figures yet.

In that case, the calculation is simple:

146,205 ÷ 0.12 = 1,218,375 SPS.

So, in the end, the SPS allocated to Gold League is a little over 1.2 million?

Still, that's a pretty odd number. What does it mean? I thought the amount of SPS distributed as rewards each month was fixed. Does it actually change every time?

Could the SPS that goes undistributed because there aren't enough players be carried over to the next season?

I'm completely lost...

LEADERBOARD

Max SPS Pool:

MODERN BRACKETS
