When I start these, they are always loose and scribbly.

After that initial blocking, I reduce the opacity of that layer and start a new layer, with more scribbles, but you know, more detailed. It's a chance to make adjustments and changes.

Slowly shape those lines the way you want them.

And now it's starting to look like something!
