As the world over here turns very, very cold, I knew I had to get a walk in again at the local marsh. So, for this week’s #wednesdaywalk, as inspired by tattoodjay@tattoodjay , I returned to the place of snow and ice to get some views and photographs in.

Now when I say cold, I mean cold! The photos probably don’t do any justice, but the temperature was a balmy +2F with wind chills in the -10Fs. That’s with a bit of light in the sky. A few hours earlier, while walking Ms. Mabel, the raw temperature was -5F. Man on man, where did those October temperatures go?

The area I walked around on is a lake on the marshlands. Not a mere eight weeks ago, this same area was teeming with Canadian geese, herons, mallards, freshwater gulls, even the occasional tundra swan. Now, the only sign of life is the occasional muskrat hut that is dotted along the horizon.

There were also the occasional rabbit footprints in the fresh snow. Life keeps on going, no matter the temperature over here for the little ones in the marsh…

What a difference the seasons make over here. With a very large storm front moving in tonight (the forecast, currently, is another 4-12 inches of snow…nice wide forecast), the steps outside the next few days may be a bit more cumbersome to get in. With high winds heading in later this week, it might get downright brutal. But hey…that’s why we live in Wisconsin, right??

Thanks for checking out my #wednesdaywalk! I hope everyone in the world is staying warm this evening, and if celebrating the holidays this weekend…a happy holiday to you from us over here in the frigid tundra. Until next week!
