Today, I decided to be a tourist in my own town. I want to show you how beautiful and historic the buildings are here in the stunning little town of Nelson, BC.
Nelson is situated in the beautiful Kootenay Valley. It is surrounded by mountains, rivers, lakes and forest. Nelson was designated as The Heritage Capital of BC. It has 350 original heritage buildings and in 1979, these buildings were brought back to life due to overwhelming support by the people of Nelson and an amazing restoration plan.
Great detail has gone into this restoration. Each building flows naturally with the new construction around it. The colors are vibrant and everyone takes great pride in having beautiful front entrances and even more stunning back alleys.
Each lamppost has the most stunning flower baskets. They do flowers really well here!

John Frederick Hume and his wife Lydia opened the Hume Hotel in 1898. The hotel is a pillar within the community. It has a hotel, saloon and restaurant that is busy all year round.
My favorite coffee shop is also one of the oldest ones in town. The Empire Coffee Shop is located next to the historic Adventure Hotel. The color of this building is unforgettable. I just love how bright it is. The interior of the coffee shop is so beautiful too. They have the best coffee ever!

I have to also mention our historic and beautiful Nelson Firehall. Built in 1912, it is the second oldest working fire hall in BC. On a nice sunny day, you can drive by and see the incredible old firetrucks out front. It truly is an architectural wonder.
