It was year end and the Festive season was upon us and my wife and I decided to take a short vacation to the coast. We were going to do the 1300 km trip by road. Unlike my normal thing, of driving this trip in one shot, we decided to take it slow and do a few stop overs, as part of the trip.
Our first stop was Paris - yes we have a Paris in South-Africa as well, although it is spelled in the Afrikaans way as Parys.
We stayed in a guesthouse that does not cater for meals, thus we went to town to find a place to have dinner. This is a small town, with not much going on, we drove down the main Street, but could not find a restaurant that was open, then we spotted a neon sign which said OPEN and we headed straight in.
The place did not look like much from the street - the photo below shows the entrance - but we were hungry and we needed to eat!!
The name of this fine establishment was The Pickled Pig Ale House. The Ale House part gave me hope!!
The inside also did not look like much, but we found ourselves a table in a corner and settled in for some nice food and BEER!
The Ale House did not disappoint, they had a large selection of BEER and a nice on Tap selection as well!!
The one that caught my eye immediately was the 18-Pounder IPA and that is what I ordered!!
It came in a decent size 500 ml glass, with a smallish head on top. It really went down well after a day at work and a 2 hour drive to our destination. This was a real good IPA!!
We also needed something to eat and we found the Eisbein under the Pig's choice section of the menu!! At $8.27 it was good value for money.
The Eisbein came with a good serving of mash potato and was real crispy and tasty!!
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise and we enjoyed our meal a lot.
