I always ask myself this question "What would life be if we had no courage to attempt anything?" Indeed life will be unfulfilled. It's not always easy starting something, so we give excuses that the situation or condition isn't perfect for us to start.
I remember some time ago when my husband and I lived in a rented apartment. It's not always easy dealing with some neighbors especially those that tend to be troublesome.
My husband and I got a piece of land about two years ago but due to financial constraints, we have not been able to start building on it. We kept living in a rented apartment hoping to start something when we had enough. We tried saving for a while back and was able to lay the foundation for the house.
We kept saying we would continue to build on it in time but something else would come up and we would use the money saved to sort it out. It got to a point where we were no longer making plans on it.
As time went by, we started having issues at our place of residence as some of our neighbors were not very cooperative in terms of paying things like electricity bills, security bills, etc which in turn affects everybody.
The last straw that broke the camel's back was when the landlord decided to increase the rent. He didn't give enough notice as we have just a few months left to renew the rent.
When my husband told me the outcome of the meeting with the landlord, I had to sit down and think. I thought about all the stress I am going through and the troubles I face with some of my neighbors.
I sat him down so we could have that one conversation. "Babe, don't you think it's high time we start making plans to move to our place? ", I asked him. " I don't know if we have enough saved to start something" he replied. We already have the rent saved and with some of the money I had saved here on Hive, we made an estimate of how much we have at hand and saw that the little we have can still do something.
My husband met with the bricklayers and we started. Before our rent was due we were able to complete a part of the house which was not so cozy but at least was livable.
We were both very happy the day we moved. We are still working on completing the house as we haven't gone far on it but at least we have something we can call our own. Now I finally have the space to breathe well as everybody here is minding their business.
In a way, the meeting with the landlord to increase the rent was the push we needed to start working on our house. I have learned from that experience not to wait until the condition is perfect before starting something new.
