Good afternoon, today I'm making my first post here on Foodie Bee Hive, and I'm doing it by sharing a great experience I had at Carajillo restaurant located in Mexico City.
I went to the branch located on Insurgentes Sur Avenue, also known as Carajillo Napoles.
From the moment I entered, everyone was very friendly.
Even though I didn't make a reservation, they offered us a table immediately.
The chef greets you with courtesy.
It is a flour tortilla accompanied by 3 sauces, each one spicier than the previous. The first one was a peanut mayonnaise sauce, my favorite of the three. The second and third were more conventional chili sauces, all of them good, but I prefer the mayonnaise one. I give this appetizer a 7/10 because it was quite messy, and we didn't finish it, but it was tasty.
Now I have to talk about the place. Honestly, I didn't expect to find such a pleasant place. It is very spacious and well-lit, at least this branch. There is plenty of space between tables, so you don't feel cramped at all. The kitchen has a glass window that allows you to see everything they're doing inside, and the bathrooms are a gem, one of the best I've seen. I would rate the bathrooms 9.5/10.
Now let's move on to a more interesting appetizer.
This guacamole has 2 or 3 quite interesting things. Firstly, it is served with two types of totopos: the purple ones made from purple corn commonly used in Mexico City and surrounding cities, and the red ones made from PEPPERONIS. This surprised me, I wasn't expecting it, and they were really good. It also had a sprinkle of chicharron, which added a nice touch. Besides that, the guacamole itself was conventional but quite delicious with those two different elements. I would give it a 9/10; it was really good, but not the best I've tried, hehe.
Taking a pause from the food, let's talk about the service. They are attentive to your needs at all times and very friendly. They also have a cart where they prepare any type of drink you order.
Personally, I ordered a Corona beer and a sugar-free Coke. If I remember correctly, the beer was priced at around $55-$60 Mexican pesos, and the soft drink was the same.
My mom ordered a vodka-based cocktail, which was a bit disappointing. It was a very small drink, and some of it spilled because it was filled too much. Additionally, the price was $230 pesos, so I would give it a 6/10.
Now let's move on to the star of the restaurant, what made it so famous, the Carajillo burger.
Let's talk about the presentation, which is very interesting in every aspect. They bathe it in a cheese sauce and sprinkle bacon on top, making it visually appealing. I would rate it 10/10 in that regard.
The ingredients, being a restaurant of great reputation, are of high quality. The burger is made with very few but excellent ingredients. It uses black Angus beef, and I ordered it cooked medium. The bun is white with black sesame seeds, and I honestly don't remember if it had any kind of mayonnaise.
Now, onto the taste. Here, I have to be very honest. It has a rich flavor, but at a certain point, the cheese becomes a bit overwhelming. It's not necessarily bad, maybe many people enjoy it, but for someone like me who isn't a big fan of yellow cheese, it was like that.
I highly recommend it, it's an experience you have to try if you have the opportunity. I would rate it 9/10.
We also ordered other dishes, such as shrimp and salmon tacos, and a Caesar salad. According to my parents, they were very good, and they recommend them.
Overall, I would give the whole experience a 9/10 in terms of prices, service, and food.
The final bill for 3 people, including 6 beers, 1 cocktail, and the dishes, was around 2200 pesos.
